The pros: Lightweight, soft, wide-brimmed hat to protect from the sun. Good ventilation. Good customer reviews across several websites. The cons: The hat arrived from Amazon in a soft plastic envelope. Inside the original packaging, the brim was folded into a triangular shape. When unfolded, the brim stays soft and flappy. In the picture, the brim appears round and somewhat firm, but in reality it looks wavy, soft and flappy. The size of the hat is listed as 6 1/2- 7 1/2. I am size 7 1/2 and the hat is a little loose on me. I think the actual hat size of this product is closer to 8. I am already considering to buy a second hat of slightly different color to have as backup. It is a good hat and I think I will get good use out of it. ... show more

Knew I would be in Southeast Asia for about a week and a half during August so I wanted a wide-brimmed hat to protect my head, face and neck from what I'd read could be oppressive sun. I read most of the reviews of this product before deciding to purchase it. Among the handful of complaints from those who didn't rate this hat as excellent was that the brim wasn't long enough. Fortunately, one reviewer actually measured it and listed its length, as the phrases "too long, long enough, and not long enough" purely subjective. I think the brim was around 3 inches, which was more than adequate to thoroughly protect my face and neck from the rays. The hat also kept my head cool. That fact that it also provided a sufficient level of UV protection was also a major factor. Now the brim is indeed rather floppy, so it will bend back during any decent breeze, but for me personally this wasn't a problem. I never experienced any sort of wind while stationary at all, plus the drawstring prevents it from ever completely blowing off your head. And this pliability made for easy storage, even folding up and putting in the pockets of shorts ... show more

    • Not very attractive but does what I want it to do

This is my 2nd purchase of the white Bora Bora Booney Fishing Hat. I do not use it for fishing, so I can't elaborate on how well it would be for that. I only use it for sitting outdoors in the sunshine or going to the park for picnics. It's Ok, but is not a very attractive hat. While well constructed and stitching is good, the brim is quite floppy and I have to tighten the hat as far as it will tighten to fit my head. It's white, so I don't use it often, as I feel it might soil easily. Works for my intended purpose though. ... show more

I bought this for sun protection when I’m out and about with the top down in my Wrangler. I worried that it would flop around a lot with the wide brim, but it works better then my booney with the smaller brim to stay in place and gives me a lot more protection from the sun than my baseball caps do.

This light weight and light colored hat keeps heads cool and protected from sun. It is durable, washable, and perfect. We bought the Navy hat first, and had to get a second one. The white hat is cooler too!
