  • A Tale of Two Coleman Mini Bikes - They both stopped working in less than 18 months
Color: Red and Black
I have both the CT200u and the BT200x. While the BT seems like the better deal, what with built in front suspension and a giant, powered headlight.. it is not. The CT-200 was $565 on Amazon with free shipping in August, 2020. Came out to just under $620 total after tax.. delivered right to my door. You really can’t beat that deal. For that price, this is an incredible value as a fun toy and a great utility vehicle. (I ordered the BT-200X from Walmart for slightly less- around $590 after tax. But I had to go to store to pick it up. And the BT-200 has been inferior to the CT-200 in nearly every way). Both my CT and BT are bypassing their governors.. but the degoverned CT200u is a good 5+ mph faster than the degoverned BT200x. (The governor basically “governs” the speed and keeps these things under 20mph. They go about 18 MPH out of the box. The gov can be bypassed by loosening the governor screw- or, if the screw is welded in, by tapping and pressing down the metal tab that hits the screw and prevents you from throttling too far. Multiple vids on youtube on how to do this- though be cautious as it’s obviously more dangerous going faster on a bike designed to only go 18 mph. It also voids the warranty). CT200 Top Speed - 26+ mph BT200 Top Speed - 21 mph But the BT200x being considerably slower is not my biggest complaint. The throttle on the BT broke after a few months of light use. It gets stuck on full acceleration unless you manually spin it back. (It is supposed to bounce back to idle position when you release the throttle.. but the spring or whatever mechanism does this broke on the BT200x). This makes it too dangerous to ride as you can get stuck accelerating by accident. Another issue I had with the BT200x was that the “radiator cover" broke and snapped off after a month and rattles like crazy now. What else.. oh yeah the fenders are cheap plastic on the BT200x.. while they are real metal on the CT200u. The light on the BT looks cool.. but it is basically worthless because it is only bright when throttling at full speed; it rapidly begins to dim when slowing down. You have to use a second light. The light does look cool though, I have to say. In fact both of these bikes generally look really cool. I painted my fenders black. But they looked good in red too. As much as I dislike the BT200 I gotta say it is a good looking mini bike. But one year later and the BT200X is basically unusable and sitting in my garage taking up space and being a waste of money... but the CT200u is still cruising. And hauling. The only issue I have had with the CT200u was that the chain was too loose when it first came. It would fall off somewhat regularly on hard turns or offroading. It would take about 5+ minutes to get back on. Eventually I bought a new chain (less than $20 on amazon) and watched a few videos on installing it. Made it a little bit tighter and have not had any chain issues since. Though it is a little tricky to roll the chain back on tight enough. That and the radiator cover gets red hot and can burn your left leg if you’re not wearing pants. Both the CT and BT engine start very reliably- which is the best thing I can say about the BT. Never had any issues getting either engine to start. There is, however, a specific way to start them. You MUST have the choke on to start. Every time. Doesn’t matter if the engine is hot and you had been riding for 30 minutes.. After hitting the kill/off switch - you need to flip the choke on, pull cord and then flip choke back off in order to start. It will never start without choke on; which admittedly is a little annoying. The CT200 handles well, and brakes decently enough, even at 26 mph. Though you have to anticipate and give yourself more time and space to brake. The front suspension on the BT200 made going over big potholes a little smoother- but it doesn’t really handle them much better than the suspension lacking CT200, which can also handle a bump or pothole if you prepare for it. You’re gonna feel the bump for sure in the CT200- but it’s not bad like hitting it on a bicycle or scooter. Careful you don’t accidentally hit your red kill switch while riding- I’ve done it a few times. Usually that’s the issue if your engine stops suddenly while riding. The CT200u is the original. It's a pretty solid, little bike (once you get your chain tightened up nicely). The BT200x is the newer version- and it's a downgrade- slower and even more cheaply made. The CT200u is a lot of fun and also functions as a great utility vehicle. I attach a large 4 wheel cart to the back and can haul 100s of pounds of weight (not sure how good that is for the engine, but haven't had any problems yet). If you see the CT200 on Amazon for under $600 with free shipping- get it. It would also be helpful to have a large socket wrench set, 2 pairs of pliers and an extra chain on standby. 3-18-22 update - the CT200 has officially crapped out and will not start after 1.5 years. Both the BT200 and the CT200 are now junk less than 2 years later. ... show more

  • Plenty of upgrade options 20 mph out of box and 32 mphwith just tools
Color: Red and Black
I love this bike only thing is it’s rough because it has no suspension but you can add forks with springs if you wanted to I put it intake exhaust on it bypass the governor with a zip tie which requires taking the gas tank off no big deal I put a tilloston carburetor on it .36 jet ,high compression plug and now it is like driving a Yamaha warrior fixed in third gear a lot of power I also ordered a bicycle headlight LED and that light came with a little tail light so now I can drive at night I live in Long Island and drive it on the back roads and no one really cares Bypassing the governor was very easy there’s a YouTube video on it put a zip tie through the inner spring the one that’s less visible that’s closer to the underside of the gas tank on the governor arm and tighten it down to the spring doesn’t activate play around with it a little that will at 8 miles an hour alone and then cutting off the throttle setscrew with some bolt cutters or will add another two or three mph. This bike will do a 20 out of the box and 32 mph, by just zip tying the governor arm spring and cutting off the throttle screw I would recommended to bypass the governor and not completely remove it this way it will still constrict and not rev too high, besides anything over 32 on this bike is gonna be hard to slow down because it has one little small drum brake no front brakes although it does feel like it is downshifting when you let off the gas which slows down the bike a good amount I had to tighten the clutch after a few days make sure you tighten all the bolts because some of them are loose I lost the carburetor bowl screw after one minute of riding it was loose luckily I had a spare Also The clutch screw came loose after a few weeks luckily I caught it before at work it’s way out so you need to tighten all these bolts and keep them tight because his bike vibrates a lot which me about to do vibrating off loose screws ... show more

  • Its fine, but there are things to beware of...
Color: Red and Black
i set this bike up the day i got it in the mail and everything seemed to be okay. i did all the necessary checks stated in the manual before taking it out for a spin in my neighborhood. While on the test ride i noticed a grinding noise and the bike was thumping a little while moving. at first i thought this may be the brakes needing to be adjusted. so i messed around with them and nothing changed. upon further inspection i noticed the jackshaft bearings looked like they were damaged, i started to take it apart to get a closer look and noticed the jackshaft castle nut was so loose after i took out the cotter pin that you could turn it by hand. i believe the castle nut being too loose was the cause of premature wear in the jackshaft bearings, also the chain being a little too tight may have contributed but i checked the chain tension and it seemed okay to drive, this problem occurred on the first time i took this bike out, almost as if the bearings were already damaged, i ordered the new bearings which was only about 20 bucks. not a big deal but if you are not mechanically inclined, i would suggest looking for something a little more reliable, but like i said this is only a 20 dollar fix and about an hour of work so im not that bummed out. i would say take a wrench to the jackshaft castle nut loosen it and retighten it yourself before riding, also make sure your chain is not too tight, better the chain pop off every now and than rather that change jackshaft bearings. ... show more
