This whistle is piercing as all hell. It makes my ears ring every time, which is awesome because I hike in woods where cougar encounters are a very real threat. You have to blow pretty hard. The one thing I really don't like about it is the magnifying glass does not come out very easily. I had to push it out with my pocket knife. The compass seems to work fine as well as the thermometer. I bought 5+ of these to use in my Survival bags, car, office and home. I like the bright yellow color better than the black "adult" version. The bright yellow color makes it easy to fine, in any situation. I think that the included features provide a much better value than other emergency whistles that offer addition "bells and whistles". :-) Everyone should have one of these with them at all time.
