  • Nice little anchor package
****UPDATE JUNE 2023*** I now have purchased 2 of these anchor packages. There was absolutely NOTHING wrong with the first or its performance I simply bought the second for use a a second anchor for the raft to prevent it swinging around everytime someone shifted, moved, etc or the wind picked up and caused swinging from a single anchor point. The second anchor is as nice a the first and I think the galvanize is smoother than the first. I also noticed that the lock ring for the anchor flutes to work more smoothly than my first. It's also slightly looser. In use though on multiple anchoring locations and being drug up to the surface it never slipped. The flutes just like the first anchors bite deeply and fully into the bottom be it silt, sand, mud, muck, gravel, etc. I have absolutely zero regrets about these anchors and will buy them as gifts for friends and family. It may be of interest for some to note that the 2 anchors take up virtually no room inside the raft. If you find yourself needing a small anchor for your boat, raft, PWC, etc I fully recommend this anchor package when used with a boat that's not excessively large. I would have no reservations about using this anchor in fresh water even with my old 16' Campion (Built up on the Peugeot Sound for the Sound) for the majority of my former and current needs. I do sincerely hope that this update helps someone out and if you're on the fence or gives you enough insight to determine if it'll work for you or not. There will be no more updates to this anchor I don't think unless something remarkable happens in their use or a failure happens. Suffice it to say I'm completely happy!!! ***END OF UPDATE**** ***UPDATE 8/29/22**** I/We have been using this anchor every chance we get since initially reviewing it and I have to say I'm incredibly pleased with it. Mostly lake fishing but it has held us securely every trip from light breeze to full on wind. A few days ago we went out with a buddy and he brought his Johnny boat. I rowed out to the secret spot and fished with one of my boys and my other went with him and tooled around the lake eventually coming back to us. I tied both boats together with a rope stringer, about midpoint on my raft to the front seat post on his boat and in a moderate breeze this anchor kept us both in place beautifully!!! Obviously we had a little movement from only being anchored in one location but it was minor and we pounded the trout even this late in the season!!! End result I highly recommend this anchor for uses such as my own and will buy another if needed in a heartbeat!!!! ****End of Update*** I bought this anchor package to pair up with a rented canoe to float and fish the Lacrosse River and to use with my newly ordered 4 person inflatable raft (Intex Mariner I believe was the model). At the same time I ordered up a LuckyLaker portable depth/ fish finder. The intent being to float/ paddle and fish while looking for the holes etc that fish congregate in then drop anchor and "Come on catfish!!!!!" After a decade plus up here I still haven't found a good catfish hole, yet I could catch them virtually anywhere I fished in California!!! Most annoying!!! Lol Butt where was I? Oh yes the anchor and intended use... so there's my intended uses and what I bought to accompany the package for those interested which I will review in time as well.... So the anchor and it's accouterments... I'll simply start one piece at a time... 1. Anchor... lightweight at only 3.5 pounds. Appears to be well galvanized. Has a rope/ shackle eye both top and bottom like others of this type and style tend to. Visually the galvanize around the eyes appear a little rough so I would use the shackles simply to prevent wear and abrasion to the rope should you decide to forgo using the chain. The locking collar that secures the 4 flukes honestly I find a little loose when securing the 4 flukes in the open position. It'll likely work just fine however I would prefer a little less play. This isn't my first foray into anchors of this type so I do have a little experience with them and this is where I derive my opinions and perspective. Again i DO think it'll largely be functional and of note I believe a certain variance in this area is to be expected so no deductions simply observations. 2. Shackles and chain... both are proportionally small and if you looked at the product images you would notice visually well proportioned to the anchor. I do believe some will desire a heavier chain to help ensuring the anchor sets and bites into the bottom well in a current. For my intended uses I do believe the chain is sufficient however if I encounter issues securing a solid anchor in a current I will put a heavier chain in its place. The shackles are small yet large enough to be used if a person desired a heavier weight thicker chain. Just be sure to take one with you when you buy your chain to be sure!!! The galvanize again appears to be well done. 3. Rope... it's a rope... at quick glance it appears to be of the derby type of ropes. I didn't measure the rope to ensure a solid 40 feet of length but by eye it's close enough if not exact. Diameter is also sufficient for pairing to an anchor of this weight and I see no issues with grip or damage to my hands. 4. Float. ... the float I received appeared to be sealed plastic and I liked its appearance. Personally I have NEVER used a float with an anchor in the ocean, rivers, lakes, ponds, etc and I've fished all up and down the west coast besides all over California. I find it's inclusion to be of questionable use for my needs, anchoring a boat, raft, canoe, etc not marking a location in the water for future returns. If I were to do that I likely would use an empty 1 gallon bleach jug either painted or left white depending on the location. But irregardless I liked the float and threaded it onto the rope for future uses so it didn't get lost. 5. Padded carry bag. It's a drawstring type of bag and plenty large for the folded up anchor with chain, shackles, rope and float all set up and ready to go with room left over for extra rope etc. No complaints here. Additional thoughts and observations..... I rigged my anchor to the top eye sure to the nature of my intended use. I don't forsee it getting locked into rocks etc but I may be wrong. If I had these concerns I would rig a secondary rope to the bottom eye although I don't see much need to do so. In all my years, and I grew up on the west coast from Washington's PNW down into California i/ we only lost ONE anchor and that was fishing the mothball fleet in Martinez/ Benicia and the anchor likely became entangled in cables or fire hose. When those ships were mothballed all those years ago a surprising amount of stuff went over the side and my dad and I had brought up pieces of fire hose on the anchor a few times. Other than that we've always been able to get an anchor loose even if it took a little work. So in that case I bought a new anchor and didn't look back! If you can set and anchor right I do believe this little anchor will work well. For those who have never set an anchor is easily done by tossing it out over the side and after it hits bottom let out extra rope while reversing the boat and dragging the anchor slightly to ensure it bites into the bottom. For a 2 anchor set up let out extra rope while continuing to reverse a bit more and toss your second anchor off the back end. My preferred method rather than driving forward is to pull the boat forward using the front anchor line by hand until the rear anchor bites. This ensures my front anchor is solid and my rear is dug in. Tie off both types securely and enjoy fishing. There is a desired angle to the anchor line and quite honestly I don't know that I ever knew what it was. I was taught and learned to set an anchor by feel so it's trial, error, and experience. I will say if you're anchor fails to bite before blaming the anchor look at your technique and try again. If most of us can use empty jugs filled with sand, gravel, cement, etc, to cinder or cement blocks, to tying a big rock onto our rope and achieve a good solid anchor in a variety of conditions you should be able to do the same with this anchor if it's size is suitable to your applications. Final thoughts... appears to be a solid anchor setup and should I encounter and issues I will update. I hope this helps someone out. ... show more
