  • Cocktail Piano for Those who Hope to Play for Crowds
Format: Paperback
An Indispensable book for the piano player that hopes to gain notoriety with his or her playing. Like others from this Hal Leonard Publisher, this book is easy to read with it's medium sized print of both treble and bass clef notes and printed chord names that you can find in any piano jazz chord book. The words to the songs that could guide you. are not included. Nonetheless, the tunes are properly marked for enjoyable playing. Old Favorite tunes that shake the emotions of listeners include: Blue Moon, Cheek to Cheek, Dream a Little Dream of Me, Georgia on My Mind, Hey There, I'm in The Mood for Love, Long Ago and Far Away, Lullaby of Birdland, More, Once in a While, Over the Rainbow, Puttin' on The Ritz, Stardust & The Very Thought of You. They are all memorable tunes but just a few of the many you will find in this book of 23 tunes. Learn these tunes and you will always have a job at the piano. Again, a book you want in your arsenal of tunes for the public that will make your playing memorable and gigs handed to you with pleasure. ... show more

  • Definitely a good book
Format: Paperback
I have three other books in the series, which I enjoy a lot, but I would give this one the highest rating for several reasons. First, it has a good variety of songs and arrangement styles, ranging from upbeat to mellow, and from slow swing to fast swing. Second, the arrangements sound great for the most part so that I enjoy playing nearly all of the songs in the book regularly. The one exception for me is the Lady is a Tramp. I just don't care for the sound of that arrangement. Third, the songs are very recognizable to others. When I play in public for older crowds, this is definitely the book of choice because it has more songs they easily recognize and can sing along to if they know the words. Unfortunately, the words are not in the books, but that makes sense because the arrangements were not written as strict vocal accompaniments. Like the other books in the series I've bought, there are plenty of rich chords, creative approaches, and fun solo improvisation breaks written in. I imagine there are more sophisticated arrangements out there somewhere, but these are a great start for an upper immediate-level pianist like myself who is learning about these songs and styles for the first time. ... show more

  • Nice Tunes, Imaginative Arrangements.
Format: Paperback
I just got this folio today increasingly expanding stack of volumes from consistently this high-quality collection. From a glance, it appears the selections will be up to the high standards I've come to expect from Edstrom. The only downside to the latest volumes I've purchased is that the newer volumes have a less sturdy binding and the stapling seems to be a bit fragile. I fear I'll be doing some shade tree binding repairs before too many run-throughs. I much preferred the Perfect Bindings on earlier buys. Some of those are a decade or more old and still in perfect shape. ... show more

  • GREAT JAZZ MUSIC, BURIED UNDER 16 LBS KITTY LITTER
Format: Paperback
The piano jazz book is great. The only problem was with Amazon packing. They put it under 16 LBS of kitty litter. Since we didn't need the kitty litter immediately we initially reported the jazz book as NOT DELIVERED. Hey Amazon, you should clearly report which box you are combining order items.

  • Satisfying and sophisticated
Format: Paperback
Harmonically and rhythmically sophisticated arrangements up to the moderately advanced level with just enough filigree to be satisfying but not cloying. There are a few fingering challenges and some daring progressions to keep your mind busy. Editing is solid with logical note spellings (a problem in some other keyboard-generated books), but a couple of pieces have orphaned repeat signs at the head with no match later on. My other minor beef is the use of repeats — if you're going to write out jazz, then write it all out. ... show more

  • Fun and Rewarding
Format: Paperback
This book has been so much fun! I’d rank it as early advanced to advanced, sometimes due to the quick finger work but other times due to the tricky rhythms. It has been the most playable smooth jazz book I’ve found.

  • Nicely Interpreted Intermediate Jazz Standards
Format: Paperback
This has a nice selection of standards that are well arranged, a few of which are quite innovative. They are not Easy Piano versions at all, and that is great. They sound very professional and have nice jazz stylings. Enjoyable to play.
