  • Simple and Easy to Understand
I really like these books a lot and have purchased a couple of them already. This book did not disappoint in that it has very simple and well-known classical piano songs for beginners to learn. I really like how you are given the sheet music, followed by the sheet music with proper finger placement for each key, and then followed by sheet music with the name of the note written next to it. Depending where you are in your piano learning journey, you get three sets of sheet music with different learning techniques for each piece of music. I've found this technique really helpful for practice and learning. ... show more

The book makes it easy to play songs like 'Für Elise' even for someone who has never read music before. It guides you step by step, with colorful pictures showing where to put your fingers. • Useful for beginning pianists
There are three pieces in this book, each one broken down into digestible, comprehensible charts of fingering with colored annotations as well as presented completely "straight." They are three of the most popular pieces for beginning pianists, the Bach C major prelude, Für Elise, and the Rondo alla Turca. A little oddly, the "Ave Maria" version is presented first with a much simplified accompaniment, leading me to suspect the entire book would consist of "simplified" classics. Probably would have been a better idea to have that as a bonus. As for the methodology, the charts and so on, it could be a useful approach. As a teaching method it's very clear. It might be a little prescriptive in terms of fingering but perhaps the beginning students need that. In general, a useful little book that will work if you follow its method and allow the student to produce a credible performance. Recommended. ... show more

  • Great way to learn to play five iconic classical compositions
I have highly reviewed this author's other books about playing the piano, one or both of which you should read before or along with this one. Those other books go into depth about keys and scales, while this book is about playing five specific compositions. Each composition is presented three times: as written, with finger numbering, and with finger number and note annotations. I appreciate the selection of compositions and the thoughtful way the author put this book together. ... show more

  • Learn to play on your own terms
"Iconic Songs for Beginner to Intermediate Piano Guide", is a very doable method to either learn piano or refresh from years ago. The author explains the very basic concepts of how the notes on the piano mirror the notes on a page of music. He explains what each of our hands is responsible for when playing the piano and gives us two methods to tell us where our fingers go while we follow the notes of sheet music. You can use numbers or letters to identify your fingers. The music selections in this piano guide are timeless, beautiful and certainly recognizable. If you don't have the time or flexibility to schedule with a piano instructor, this could be a fantastic opportunity to follow your dream on your own terms. Highly recommend. ... show more
