  • excellent entry level unit
I am finally getting around to writing a review for this CNC machine that I have had since February. I wanted to use it a bunch of times before writing a review because it is such a complex tool and I wanted to use as many of the features as I could to give an accurate opinion. This was my first CNC machine and I really enjoyed putting it together. The included instructions were sufficient, not perfect, but enough to get it put together and working on the first try. I installed the included software and spent a few hours testing the software out and trying to figure out exactly how it worked. This machine is made out of high-grade aluminum with a particle board platform. Once I had it assembled and had spent some time learning how it worked, I did a test run on a thin piece of poplar that I had laying around. I found the machine to be very accurate once I had the software and positioning set up and dialed in. You can do a lot with this machine as long as you have the patience to spend time with the software and learn how to use it. The machine must be used in an open air environment because as you may expect, it throws dust everywhere. I had it set up in the garage and used it with the door open and the air cleaning system running. Additionally, it is quite loud but that is not unique to this unit as every CNC I have ever been around have been equally as loud. This is a great entry-level machine for those of use who are new to CNC. I do recommend it because the price is excellent for what you get, the fact that it comes with all necessary accessories, and the fact that it worked quite well. ... show more

  • A Great Starter Machine for Beginners That is Well Built!
Well, I’m a newcomer to CNC machines. I had been looking at getting one for a while and this is a great starter CNC machine that is well built. Putting it together took some time because the wrong bolts were used when beginning assembly only to discover later in the assembly process, I had to disassemble part of the machine to swap the bolts for the correct ones. The directions were picture based so it was easy to get the bolts mixed up. The other issue was running the cables correctly to ensure the machine moved freely. The USB contained the software to install on your computer as well as an instruction manual the walks you through the process to finish setting up and calibrating the machine. The machine runs smoothly, but it is messy as to be expected. Also, if you are planning on using it in your house, be aware it is rather loud. Between the mess and the noise, it is recommended you use this in a workshop or garage to the noise and mess are containable. Overall, a nice starter CNC machine. It doesn’t have all the bells and whistles as the more expensive machines, but if you’re looking at getting started with CNC, this is the machine for you! ... show more

  • Substantial build quality
My husband and I have been looking at CNC routers for a while now and in researching them, I was really pleased to see this Wolfpawn CNC is made with steel wheels and an aluminum frame construction. So many we’ve read about are made with plastic and just don’t hold up over time. It arrives mostly preassembled and the rest was easy enough. My husband loves gadgets and tech so he’s been pouring over the included drive to start to learn the software. We have no experience with CNC machines yet but are incredibly excited to learn. I’m a leatherworker and hope to be able to carve designs and maybe even cut pieces on the machine. From the information, it seems to be a higher quality beginner machine while sounds perfect. We have also been collecting sound dampening materials and are going to build an enclosure to help lower the volume and contain any fumes and debris. The machine is loud once you start cutting, and since ours will be used in our house, we want to have a pretty buttoned up environment before we start using it a lot. It’s a totally open machine, with no lid or enclosure like some laser cutters or other carving or CNC machines so unless you are using this in an outdoor shed or garage, you really want to create an environment for it. Hopefully once we get more of a handle on the finer points of using it, I can share some pieces we’ve carved with it, none the less, it’s a really fun piece of equipment with a lot of potential uses for a wide array of materials . ... show more

  • First impressions
I have done 3D printing in the past, but CNC is a new world for me. I was able to assemble this in about 45 minutes. It would have been much shorter had I paid closer attention to the instructions as I had to disassemble at times because I had used the wrong bolts. The instructions are not great, but aren’t terrible either. There were some steps that I had to just figure out from other pictures in the manual. There seem to be several 4040 CNC machines by different manufacturers that are very similar if not identical. That may be helpful to look at assembly of some of the others. If you’re looking for how to attach the wires that go across the bed, there are little wire clips under the rail that the big chain rides across. After assembly, the directions are not good. You’re pretty much on your own. I was able to run the included software and verify the various functions. I loaded the included test vcode but had no idea how large the print would be. So, I just secured a large piece of plywood to the bed. Maybe the size is noted somewhere in the software but I didn’t see it. They include I think about 8 bits, but they aren’t labeled. I just chose one at random. I used the z probe through the software, set the position, hit start, and hoped for the best. Not bad for a first go on some scrap plywood. I’m looking forward to seeing what this machine is capable of, but the learning curve seems steep! I think this is reasonably priced for a beginner CNC with a decent size bed. Would definitely recommend for jumping into the hobby. ... show more
