  • TLDR; Quality Android phone for user. Soap-box argument in regards to AI concerns...
Color: Light Green Size: 8+256GB
I have been using unlocked android phones for well over 10+ years, usually gravitating towards Motorolas with lower/mid-range performance because of my fixed budget. After owning this phone for a few motnhs, the CMF Phone greatly surpassed my expectations; the UI design is super sleek and if for some reason you don't want it, you can absolutely switch to the deafault Android theme for your comfort. It took me a couple weeks to fully adjust to the phone; and to be honest there are still some gestures and functions I have some difficulty with despite being on the techy side. I would recommend Android users who want a reliable, fast phone with NO lag, and plenty of space and customization to give this phone a shot. It's also worth mentioning the camera quality and video recording is pretty damn solid; obviously its not an iPhone—but it is exceptional in quality comparison with my former 2021 Moto G Power. A few gripes I do have with this phone: the lack of an audio jack, the screenshot button, and AI-slop. I do not think I will ever quite move away from wired headphones; as bluetooth tends to degrade sound quality. If you're going to get this phone (and don't have a bluetooth in your car) I recommend getting a quality USB-C to AUX audio jack adapter that has a DAC chip installed. If you don't, you will not be able to use the CMF's internal microphone while answering calls and listening to music. I have not looked into if there's a way to change the hotkey for taking screenshots; but if I had a nickle for everytime I tried turning off my screen, accidentally pressing the volume side buttons and taking a screenshot... it perhaps was not a well-placed button for the overall design. Thankfully, the AI-support and Gemini function is optional on this phone. I do not think AI (artifical intelligence) on its own is bad, there are plenty of ways AI is used to execute commands and process information. However, I do have a problem when there is limited data available on how *generative* AI (ChatGPT, OpenAI, Microsoft Co-pilot, Google Gemini) consumes energy and how it affects communities locally and globally. A lot of tech companies are jumping on the AI-band wagon; perhaps in hopes of lucrative gains as AI has certainly hit mainstream consciousness. CMF by Nothing is not the only company crafting AI into their design systems, but I think we, as consumers, need to research ways in which generative AI gathers and collects data, the ethics surrounding user privacy, autonomy, and its environmental impact. ... show more

  • Great Budget Phone.
Color: Black Size: 8+256GB
Got this for my mom as she was rocking a Samsung Galaxy A12 and that was definitely showing its age. I was easily able to get her data transferred from her old phone to this one, and got it set up super quick! I was also able to change the display language to her native language so that it would be easier for her to use. Battery life seems pretty good, I haven't heard any complaints from her and she uses it daily to watch videos while she's going throughout her day. Haven't had any connection issues and it's running 5g fine on T-mobile network connections. Wifi has been good. It's fluid and responsive. I don't think I would use it to play games, but she doesn't do that anyways. She only really uses it to watch YouTube and general phone things - making calls, texts, etc. It doesn't come with a charger, but it has USB-C (as most should) and charges fine on little plug with one of a thousand usb-c cables I have. It's also punches above it's weight in the sound department, it can get pretty loud and sounds pretty good for how budget this phone is! I would highly recommend this phone for anyone looking to have a budget phone that feels much more premium that the tag would suggest. ... show more

  • I switched from an iPhone 15 Pro Max. Here's how it's going.
Color: Black Size: 8+256GB
As a lifelong Apple user, aside from one HTC Evo 4G phone years ago (We won't talk about how laggy and terrible that thing was and why it scared me away from Android altogether until now), this is the first phone I've had that wasn't an iPhone since the 3GS came out. I never thought I'd switch. This phone packs in everything you need and leaves out everything you don't to give you a very reasonable price; even during the beta phase in the USA. Long story short, I switched because the carrier I bought my iPhone 15 Pro Max with cancelled my phone plan and 2 year financing on the phone when I dropped their Internet service for another carrier. Spectrum. No surprise there. So, since iPhones in the USA now are ESIM only, unlike the UK and Europe, unless I paid the phone off in full, I essentially had a really nice titanium WiFi brick as it was carrier locked and they (Spectrum) wouldn't give me cellular service unless I had their Internet service. That pissed me off. So, I wasn't going to give Spectrum another dime. I sold the iPhone at a Walmart kiosk and used some of that cash to buy the CMF Nothing Phone 1 in full here on Amazon. Aside from having to learn how to operate anything other than Apple's iOS, the setup was very easy. Nothing OS is spectacular and I love the esthetics. CMF Nothing Phone 1 doesn't have all of those flashy lights and haptics on the back which I like. Clean and simple. Like the days of old, us people born before the year 2000 know what it's like to be able to change the color of your phone by buying a different color "shell" if you will. They're bringing that back along with other accessories like a kick stand, lanyard, card holder, multiple different color back cases to swap out with 4 real and functional screws and one knob screw. I also have the CMF by Nothing Watch Pro 2, the fast charger CMF by Nothing as pictured and I can get 12 hours of high usage out of the battery and if I turn the phone off I can have it from dead to 100% in 1 hour, which is wild. The only thing I don't like is that you can't remove the battery yourself without voiding any type of warranty or breaking the rules, lol. Hopefully they'll resolve this with the CMF by Nothing Phone 2 and make the battery another accessory you can buy directly from Nothing if need be. In the USA do NOT use Version at all as they have the least amount of bands supported for cellular service. AT&T is second worst. Anyone else that doesn't use either of those two company's towers work perfectly fine. Like T-Mobile as I can get 5G and 4G LTE nearly everywhere. I was concerned about if this phone would be able to hold up to the strenuous use I put my phones through as I don't have a laptop and my phone is how I do absolutely everything. I have anywhere from 15+ apps constantly running in the background and the processor works just fine. Hardly noticeable from the iPhone 15 Pro Max although I know the iPhone's processor is better on paper. Expandable storage to add up to 2TB of storage via micro SD card where the sim tray is. 8GB of RAM and you can adjust a RAM Booster of phone storage between 2-8 more GBs of RAM totalling up to 16GB. So, you have a Super AMOLED full HD screen, a strong processor, a bigger 5000 mAh battery that's bigger than the 15 Pro Max, RAM, storage, etc. This phone can do everything my iphone 15 Pro Max could do aside from using your phone as a form of payment (NFC) which you can buy a smart watch that has the capability and pair via Bluetooth to bypass that minor drawback. If nothing else, I hope Nothing keeps their flagship Nothing Phone and the CMF by Nothing Phones going forward even if they have to cut the (2a) and (2a+) cheaper version of the Nothing Phone 2 out of their lineup. They've really got something going here. I can't wait to see what it turns into as I'm more of a fan of the CMF Phone than the Nothing Phone 2 flagship. Hopefully soon all accessories and case colors will become readily available in the USA after the beta phase this year and in December 2024 we'll have the new Android 15 update (Nothing OS 3) All of that to say this... If you're used to iPhone 15 Pro Max or Samsung Galaxy S20-whatever and are worried this phone might not have the hardware or software to do all of the tasks your previous flagship phone could do, don't. It does everything aside from NFC and have the fancy cameras and runs noticeably just as well and as smoothly and I use a lot of processing power, RAM and storage so take it from me. If you don't believe me, download the DevCheck app or the like on your old device and on this one and you'll find the things that matter are a lot closer than you think. Like screen, battery, fast charging, processor, RAM, storage, etc. Buy the device(s). You won't regret it. ... show more
