Just installed 12 of these and they were really easy. Use a 4.25" hole saw and you'll roll through this quick. Once powered up, the app setup was OK, not great to work through. There's lots of improvement that could be done to make it easier but all in all, happy with the end result. Wish the trim rings were just a bit wider. Everything was included for easy hook up. I bought these over identical-looking competing products for 3 main reasons: Available in 6pkwhile many competing products are only 8/12pk (I only needed 3) , the option of 3 colors, and good value in terms of price per unit. Installation in general is pretty easy. Remove the number of punch-outs you need from the control box, install 3/8" NM clamps (not included), run the Romex wire through them, and wire it up using the included wire nuts. Then push the box up into the hole. It does have screw holes for securing it if you want, but most people (myself included) don't bother. Then plug in the light, position the spring clips where they will go into the hole, and pop it in. I replaced a couple flush-mount "boob lights" with these, so there was a bit more work involved in cutting out the original junction boxes, but once the junction boxes were removed (4" round type), I was left with the perfect sized hole for these to pop right into. At least, that was the case with my upstairs hallway. My basement hallway was built by the homeowner, and his junction box hole was a lot more sloppy, so I did have to do a bit of trimming to get the hole right. I didn't have to worry about thickness since mine went into existing junction box holes, but they're very thin. They would definitely clear any joists in 1/2" drywall if you need them to. After installation, they look great! I love the clean, flat look. They were also surprisingly bright. The old "boob lights" had 15W (60W equiv) CFL in them that were supposed to be 800-Lumens. These at 650-Lumens are significantly brighter. It seemed a little too bright at first for a hallway, but I've gotten used to it and it feels just right now. The only minor complaint I have, is between the 2 in the upstairs hallway, both set to 4000K, one is noticeably warmer than the other. However, it's not annoying enough to make me want to go to the trouble to try swapping out the lights and/or control box, especially since wiring the upstairs ones was made a bit difficult since the builder of my house secured all the wiring to the ceiling joists leaving me with very little slack to work with. I didn't ding them a star because I'd say I'm 95% happy with them and very glad I went for these 4" recessed rather than just nicer looking flush mount fixtures. ... show more

So I bought 12 of these lights for a new home office I was building and it took over 6 months for me to get around to getting them installed so I was counting on them to work as I had no way to return them. Installation was easy. Mine came with wire clips and the spring clips are very strong. I do wish the wire plug for each light that comes out of the box was a little longer as I had a tough time reaching through the drywall holes (4” is harder to work through than 6”). But after everything was wired up and connected to power I really liked the way lights looked and how bright they get! I couldn’t get mine to connect to the Smart Life app so I used the CloudyBay app and linked it Alexa as a ‘skill’. At first they seemed to work great with most lights responding immediately to Alexa commands for brightness or color changes. Then after a few days all but one would respond quickly and the last one would take 20 seconds longer or I would repeat the command and it would work then. Not perfect but ok. That was 6 months ago. Now usually only a few of the dozen lights come on no matter how many times I say the Alexa command. So when I open the Alexa app, the ones that don’t respond aren’t connected to WiFi according to the app. So I bring in a 3rd mesh router into the new room to improve the signal. This router is hard wired with my main router and all other smart devices in the room (over 20) all have excellent signal and maintain their connections. Still can’t seem to improve the lights response to Alexa commands. When I go to the cloudy bay app now it usually only shows a couple of the lights connected but if I refresh the app page they all start to “come online”. If I set the phone down for a few minutes the lights start to disconnect from the app one by one and I’m back to where I’m started. I’ve tried I linking the CloudyBay Alexa skill a few times and it doesn’t help. My conclusion is the app is the problem and I’m beyond frustrated. To replace all of these lights with a different brand would cost double what I paid for these but I’m starting to wonder if that’s the only way I ll get this resolved. The whole point of smart devices is convenience. If it takes me 3-5 minutes to fumble through multiple apps to change the “smart” lights then I guess I’m the idiot. Not happy - ... show more

Bought these to brighten the house up. Installed 16 in the living room/dining room vaulted ceilings and installed another 8 in the master bedroom over the summer. Very easy to install and they can connect easily to eachother. Just need wire, a switch and a feed and you are good to go. It’s nice to be able to tune the warmth so it’s not too warm/not too cold but just right 😂😂😂 ... show more

    • Unreliable and hard to replace

Bought one set 3 years ago. Recently one out of six lights went out (so much for LED lifetime). I had to buy a whole new 6 set to replace just one light. Ok, that's not ideal but there is more. It turned out that the connection between the light and the junction box has been changed in the last 3 years -- there is now a different connector with different threading. Meaning you can't just change the light itself, you have to replace the whole junction box if you want a new light (BTW the item itself appears identical on Amazon, so there is no way to see that this is now an incompatible product with what was sold 3 years ago). So it ended up being a pretty involved job for what should have essentially been a "replace burned out bulb" type of fix. Overall, not recommended. Unreliable and hard to maintain. ... show more
