I purchased these lights to install in my garage. Because these are controllable by an app, I assume they could be hardwired always-on. But, in order to pair them with your app, you need to have them wired to a switch. So, read all the directions before you start pulling wire. After wiring in a switch and toggling three times, they all paired. My WiFi isn’t great, but all six lights paired. Compatibility with google home is a bonus. They are bright and responsive. Love these. Had existing 4” recessed lights in my soffit and swapped them out for these so I could change colors for holidays. Got a set of smart landscape lights so I could have them match as well. Easy to install. Easy to setup. User friendly app. Plan on doing purple/orange for Halloween and red/green for Christmas. I’ll do warm white the rest of the year. Easy to program different colors. They are a great value until you factor in the cost of having them ripped out and another brand installed. There is a buzzing from them, like a glass harp. It is coming out several of the 15 I had installed. I'm surprised; they were rated so well. I got such a good deal, that I had a great feeling about them, but this has been a disaster. Update: I thought since they were set to full power and brightness out of the box, I could adjust those things and problem solved. Wrong after setting to 50% power and a warmer color buzzing remained. I finally managed to get the lights to stop buzzing, but only after I turned them to orange, purple, or blue. So only Friday night lighting. FYI the lights were put on a new circuit using new 12 gauge wire and new breaker, that was ran to a new main panel we installed less than a year ago. My contractor thought it was the lights and not the box. He said he could feel them vibrating. I could not but I will try switching the lights with some replacements Amazon sent. The app wants to know your location and if you refuse, it will add a pop up every single time you select a light to adjust anything. I purchase two 6 packs of these and installed them over the course of two days. The install was straight forward. Mark and cut the holes, run the power and plug each one in. Make sure you have a switched power supply because you need to power them on and off three times to put them in pairing mode. The directions recommend only pairing up to 6 at a time, but I was able to do all twelve at once. Wifi needs to be on the 2.4 GHz and you need to have your mobile device also on the 2.4 signal for these to connect. The app is a bit wonky to work with to set up scenes. They advertise millions of colors, but its a simple color wheel. Would be better with the color block that allows more options. Alexa connected pretty easily. So far I can only have Alexa turn them on and off. I have not been able to have Alexa change the colors or scenes(custom program) yet. You can group the lights.. I.E. all the odd lights to one scene and the evens to another. The Cons now. Sometimes when I turn them on as a whole or group, one of them won't power up so I have to go into the app and turn it on manually. Last night I shut them off and woke up around midnight with one of them on all by itself. It would be nice to see a full video of setting up scenes. Will update as I find more issues. So I bought 12 of these lights for a new home office I was building and it took over 6 months for me to get around to getting them installed so I was counting on them to work as I had no way to return them. Installation was easy. Mine came with wire clips and the spring clips are very strong. I do wish the wire plug for each light that comes out of the box was a little longer as I had a tough time reaching through the drywall holes (4” is harder to work through than 6”). But after everything was wired up and connected to power I really liked the way lights looked and how bright they get! I couldn’t get mine to connect to the Smart Life app so I used the CloudyBay app and linked it Alexa as a ‘skill’. At first they seemed to work great with most lights responding immediately to Alexa commands for brightness or color changes. Then after a few days all but one would respond quickly and the last one would take 20 seconds longer or I would repeat the command and it would work then. Not perfect but ok. That was 6 months ago. Now usually only a few of the dozen lights come on no matter how many times I say the Alexa command. So when I open the Alexa app, the ones that don’t respond aren’t connected to WiFi according to the app. So I bring in a 3rd mesh router into the new room to improve the signal. This router is hard wired with my main router and all other smart devices in the room (over 20) all have excellent signal and maintain their connections. Still can’t seem to improve the lights response to Alexa commands. When I go to the cloudy bay app now it usually only shows a couple of the lights connected but if I refresh the app page they all start to “come online”. If I set the phone down for a few minutes the lights start to disconnect from the app one by one and I’m back to where I’m started. I’ve tried I linking the CloudyBay Alexa skill a few times and it doesn’t help. My conclusion is the app is the problem and I’m beyond frustrated. To replace all of these lights with a different brand would cost double what I paid for these but I’m starting to wonder if that’s the only way I ll get this resolved. The whole point of smart devices is convenience. If it takes me 3-5 minutes to fumble through multiple apps to change the “smart” lights then I guess I’m the idiot. Not happy - ... show more
