Wonderful Performances
Howard Shelley is outstanding, as usual. These piano concertos needed to be recorded. They are both filled with lovely melodies & attractive pianistic effects. I will listen to them more than once as I think you will. I will keep an eye out for more recordings in this series.

The English Cramer's Charm in in Evidence with Howard Shelley -
The Classical Piano Concerto - Johann - (John) Baptist Cramer - (1771-1858) - Howard Shelley - piano/conductor - London Mozart Players - HYPERION - TT: 60:52 - (2019) - Program - Piano Concerto No. 4 in C major, op. 38 - (1804)I - (1) - Allegro con brio; II - (2) - Romance - Affettuoso; III - (3) - Rondo - Allegro; Piano Concerto No. 5 in C minor, op. 48 - (1807) - IV - (1) - Allegro maestoso; V - (2) - Larghetto; VI - (3) - Rondo a l'Hongroise - Scherzando - It is interesting to note that even Cramer lived until 1858; nevertheless, his compositions reflect more the complete style of Classicism as found in the music of Mozart, Hummel, Dussek and Steibelt. The music is always full of charm, warmth, beautiful and restrained harmony. This superb recording by Howard Shelley is a perfect example of this preceding statement. As always found with this sterling concert pianist and conductor, the playing is truly beautiful for its own sake. His piano tone is warm, subtle and the phrasing is perfect. The orchestra utilized here again under Mr. Shelley artistic direction makes for a really excellent balance between soloist and the accompaniments. Excellent program notes in English, French and German as written by Jeremy Dibble add so much to the excellent history of the composer, career and to the compositions themselves. This disc is highly recommended for any pianist, musician and piano aficionado who appreciate hearing the music of this English classicist - Johann - (John) Baptist Cramer.
