  • It works perfectly - but setup can be tricky
Size: USB 2.0 Color: 2x3 USB 2.0 HDMI
I read a lot of reviews and from what I could tell, besides actual hardware failure on the box itself, the bulk of the negative reviews seem to be related to the lousy setup instructions. Once deciphered, though, it's a breeze. The instructions say "click" on the control (CTRL) key twice, press a hotkey and Enter. Press/tap the CTRL key twice. not click. Do follow the instructions explicitly. Shutdown the computers you're connecting and make sure the KVM is off. After everything is connected, turn it all back on - doesn't matter the order. Regardless of OS, you'll probably have to do some rearranging of your multi-monitor setup. I have 3 monitors and I had to rearrange for both the Windows laptop and Mac mini. Setup didn't go smoothly either. The keyboard worked on one and not the other. The mouse pointer moved on the mac but it didn't register clicks. The manual that comes with the KVM helped me out by instructing me how to reset the KVM (in my casem tap CTRL twice, hit R and then Enter) - after the reset, everything worked just fine. Switching between machines is easy. USB headset and webcam switch over just fine. Analog audio works from both machines, too. I should also note that I bought the HDMI version. Both machines I have only have one HDMI port. The Mac is USB-C and the docking station for the laptop is DisplayPort (DP++ - passive) and DP on USB-C. I bought USB-C to HDMI and DisplayPort to HDMI cables and ran those to the inputs on the KVM. Make sure you understand the output ports on your machines - some DisplayPort require an active adapter all the time, or if you're running multiple monitors. All in all, I'm pretty happy with this KVM. It does exactly what I'd hoped for. Any issues I ran into during setup were related to limitations of the hardware I was connecting to/from. ... show more

  • It Does The Main Thing It Needs To Do
I bought this to replace my IOGEAR Miniview 4-port VGA KVM (GCS1744), which I have had since 2006. It finally stopped working (2019). A problem that I had with it along the way was that at some point the powered USB ports on the back stopped providing enough power for my Logitech Performance MX wireless mouse and my Nitehawk X8 mechanical keyboard. It did work when I put both devices into a non-powered USB hub and plugged that into one port. At some point that ceased to work, and I got a powered USB 3.0 hub and that solved the issue. Ok. Sorry for the long setup. The CKLau 2 Port Dual Monitor KVM Switch is a compact unit. Feels very solid. Doesn't take up much space, but it is heavy enough that it isn't being dragged by the cables. The buttons have a crisp click to them and it does the job of switching between my monitors instantly. It is with the Mouse and Keyboard that I again am having a problem. The ports in the back are also unpowered. I do not recall seeing this in the product description. I even tried to use my powered USB 3.0 hub and it did not solve this issue. The user manual does make mention that if you have a mechanical keyboard that you may instead need to use the port on the front on the unit. I plugged in a non-powered USB hub to the front port and plugged my mouse transmitter/received into that and my mechanical keyboard, and it all works just fine -- except aesthetically I really wanted all of the cables coming out the back. I wrote to CKLau about this and there was no reply. Nothing. I don't think there is much excuse in 2019 for a KVM switch not to have powered USB ports in the right places, but I know there is no excuse in any year for a vendor to not respond to my concern about the product. I gave this 3 stars because despite the cable placement, it solved my need to share keyboard, video, mouse, and I can live with the cabling issue. I would have given it 4 stars if the company had at least responded to my issue. ... show more

  • Promising but with severe issues (Updated review + score)
Size: USB 2.0 Color: 4x4 USB 2.0 HDMI KVM
I am updating my review with this KVM after working with support from CKLau, and having resolved an issue I was having as described in my original review below. At the time of buying this KVM, I wasn't aware that CKLau also sold USB-C to HDMI adapters, so I had already bought different 3rd party adapters off Amazon, all of which failed to work well with Mac Studio and this KVM. It seemed odd that three different brands of cables (all same specs) would all fail in the exact same manner, so I had thought it was the KVM. But then I ordered a different set of cables which got to me before CKLau's adapters ( https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B085HC43Q9 ) and this totally resolved the problem for me. No more screens going in and out when waking up the Mac Studio. No more windows being rearranged, no more screens being rearranged. This is the first ever KVM I have used (and I had used 5 already) that solved a decades long Apple issue with multi-monitor support. It's clear that the built-in EDID emulation solves an issue caused by macOS, which tricks macOS into thinking that the monitors are still connected and turned on. When I get the CKLau USB-C to HDMI adapters, I will also test those and review them on their own page. But for now, my current cable setup is working well. This KVM is legit, it works well with Mac Studio (again, no more desktop, icon or screen rearranging on wake up) and it also works well with my Windows and Linux PCs. I am able to get Triple QHD/1440p @ 144Hz out of all my devices without issues with this KVM. Switching performance is fast, and operation is simple. And support was very quick and helpful. They were correct when pointing out the adapters I was using as likely being the problem. Please pay attention to this part: Not all adapters and cables are made equally, even if they have the same specs. That's important to know, at least for Mac users. ### (Original review score: 3). The Bad I am having a major problem with this 4-port 4-monitor 4K@60Hz KVM. When my Mac goes to sleep and I wake it up, one or more monitors will go in and out every 15 - 30 seconds indefinitely. This is not an issue when I connect my Mac to my monitors directly without KVM, so I know it's the KVM. Only when I unplug everything and remove power from the KVM and put it all back together does it (temporarily) fix the problem. But if the Mac goes to sleep again, the problem will happen again. I can replicate this every single time. I even set the resolution of my QHD monitors down to 1080@60Hz and it didn't solve the issue. I am working with support right now hoping they can help me find a solution, but so far it's been "reconnect power" which doesn't do anything. But I do want to say that support does get back to you really quick, so that's good. The Good While I am having the issue above, the good news is that this KVM actually did solve a long standing issue I've had with other KVMs: It doesn't "disconnect" displays when you switch ports, so every PC and Mac I have connected will switch quickly, and WITHOUT making MacOS or Windows 10 rebuild my desktops by moving windows and icons to the wrong monitor. It seems the built-in EDID emulator is helping to solve this issue, for now (I would need more time to really know if this is a permeant fix). The hardware looks and feels high quality and you get all of the cables you need to connect 4 devices to 4 displays. I was confused at first by the lack of USB ports at the back to connect my devices, but it seems they're using some kind of CEC hack of the HDMI spec to use some backchannel to carry USB information for KB + Mouse. I'm not sure if this a good idea, but it seems to mostly work. For example: my mouse will power on, but it will not work if "Hot Key" is enabled, but I don't know if this is related to using the CEC hack on HDMI. Turning off "Hot Key" allows my mouse to work again. I also wonder if the CEC hack they're using is causing the video issues I am having as mentioned above. The box itself is much smaller than I thought it would be. It's about 3.5 inches high and I was able to fit it into a small space I set aside for it. And it's not really that heavy either. The pictures don't show it, but it does in fact come with a remote, and the remote port is on the front of the box. As for Resolution / Refresh support with Triple 2K/QHD monitors. Despite this saying it's rated for 4K@60Hz, it also works for 2K/1440@60Hz/100Hz/120Hz/144Hz. (But 120Hz shows up fuzzy on Mac.) Is It Worth It? I really want to like this product, but the issues with screens going in and out periodically and frequently is a major deal breaker, I can't work like this. Yet this is the only KVM that solves the issue with MacOS and Windows not rebuilding my desktop each time I switch ports thanks to EDID emulation. I certainly hope CKLau support can help, otherwise I will have to return and try to find something else. Maybe I just got a bad box, or bad cables (or both), but this is a persistent problem. I will update my review if they can fix this. ... show more
