Description

For a rugged look with a comfortable fit, this Citizen military inspired timepiece fits the bill. The Citizen Chandler is featured here in black ion- plated stainless steel case, tan Cordura® strap and sand colored dial. Added features include analog day/date and12/24-hour time. Featuring our Eco-Drive technology – powered by light, any light. Never needs a battery. Caliber number 8729. Since its foundation in 1930, CITIZEN has promoted a multi- cultural mindset that fosters excellence and creativity. The very name of the brand conveys a deep respect toward craftsmanship and considered as familiar by citizens the world-over. So as a “citizen” of the world, we bear the responsibility to help cultivate a culture of positive change and on-going evolution through our craft. We take that mission seriously and steadfastly welcome what the future may bring. As a true manufacture d’horlogerie, CITIZEN integrates a comprehensive manufacturing process from creating individual components to a watch’s final assembly. It’s an artisan’s approach to watch making based on pushing forward the boundaries of technology and leveraging our experience toward exploring new possibilities. One pivotal technological breakthrough was the development of a light-driven watch. CITIZEN pioneered this engineering innovation well ahead of other watch manufacturers as early as 1976, which led to the launch of the highly acclaimed Eco-Drive in 1995. Utilizing electrical power converted from virtually any light source, this extraordinary innovation changed forever the way watches could be powered. Eco-Drive eliminated the need to ever replace batteries, which made it especially beneficial to areas where such specialist batteries were not obtainable. This leveled the field for citizens of virtually every country to be able to experience unrestricted joy of wearing and using a CITIZEN watch. The product development policy, “The Fusion of Technology and Beauty,” remains a constant motivation for us to merge cutting-edge technology with perfection of design beauty, which as a consequence inspires people to strive to be their best at any time. CITIZEN launches a new campaign in collaboration with Wieden+Kennedy, Better Starts Now. This is the simple belief that no matter who you are or what you do, it is always possible to make something better — and now is the time to start doing it. We believe that better and now are both infinite, and that there is always a next ‘better’ and a new ‘now’ in which you can start pursuing it. It was clear from the onset of this project that we are dedicated to this ideal…not to the past but to the present, and all the way we can improve it. To help communicate this belief to the world we have created a new global CITIZEN brand movie, brand identity and brand website that represents out Better Starts Now philosophy.

  • This is a gorgeous watch with lots to offer
I've always wanted to buy a Citizen for my watch collection. They're a great brand and really offer a lot of bang for the buck, you know? But for whatever reason I kept putting it off. That's until I saw this bad boy. I do a lot of photography and needed a watch for the outdoors and this watch fits that bill perfectly. The eco-drive movement means that light (any light actually) will keep it powered, so I don't need to worry about the battery dying. It feels solid too and looks like it can take a beating. It's water resistant too (although I wouldn't dive or swim with it bc of the strap). Plus, it has different dials for different functions which is always a plus. The band itself was the biggest selling point for me. It just looks like it's meant to be outdoors in the wild. It's really nice. I will say thought that this is a thick watch like others said. Not heavy per se, just thick. Plus, the watch band does need to be broken in. All this being said, I plan on using this as my go-to watch whenever I'm outdoors. Imo this is a great watch at a great price. ... show more

  • First blush
Ok right out of the box I an happy with this watch. The beige face looks great. Dark enough not to glare and a good color. The band is fine I had no trouble with it. It is thick and stiff but that will change over time. A good sturdy band is a plus. The next test for this watch will come tonight when I check out the luminosity of the hands and the 4 cardinal points. I don't expect it to glow all night. Some of my Citizen watches do very well at night. Others not so much which is always a disappointment. The numbers are easy to read and the hands are of a substantial size making this a truly at a glance time piece. Till the night test results. Later. 😀 Ok I am giving this watch a passing grade as a night watch. The luminosity will by no means last all night. Just an hour or so which isn't bad. One thing I have to say is that this watch is really comfortable. Brand and it feels great. Leather bands and some other military style fabric bands required at least some break in. This one fine right out of the box. The watch itself weighs little. Anyone buying this watch will not be disappointed. ... show more

  • Great Watch
This is a great looking watch. Date info is easy to read and time appears accurate. The only bummer about this watch is that the glow-in-the-dark portion of it does not seem to charge up in normal light. So if I am in light all day and suddenly it is dark I can't read the watch. If you shine a flashlight directly on it for a while it is bright and easily readable, but that does not last very long and certainly I do not always have a flashlight on me when I need to charge up the hands. The strap is comfortable and nice looking. I wear my watches with the face on the inside of my wrist and so far no signs of scratching or dings after several weeks. ... show more

  • Great Watch!
I really like this watch. I've had it for just over a week now and in 7 days, it has lost only one half of a second in time, so it appears to be very accurate. It looks very nice and it is simple. I did not care for the band that came with the watch - it is rather stiff and uncomfortable, but others may like the standard band. I removed the original band and replaced with a silicon rubber quick-release band - much more comfortable, looks good, and is easy to put on and remove. One thing I noted from a previous review before I purchased the watch: The review indicated the correct band width is 20mm, not 19mm as advertised. I purchased/attached a 20mm band and it fits perfect. ... show more

  • Great Watch - Doesn't feel as big as it looks
It's a somewhat big looking watch -- 43mm diameter and 48mm L2L, but does not feel big or clunky to me. I did though replace the strap with a silicone one right away, and it is a 20mm strap width, not 19, as was correctly stated in one of the answered questions. Is it a genuinely practical "field" watch? Maybe not, just like many "dive" watches aren't really the best choice for diving. It has a very nice looking crystal with a little bit of a dome to it, but it is mineral glass and it will get scratched up if you bang it on things. I bought it for its functions and features: Good Readability, Eco-Drive power, and analog complications that I find appealing, and I have been very happy with it. ... show more

  • Great outdoor watch.
I love this watch. The only knock is that the watchband, though extremely well made and heavy duty, is so thick it acts like a shorter band and is too tight on my wrist. I have a moderately big wrist so was able to find a suitable replacement. The watch itself is fantastic. Looks great and works like a charm. If you find the watch is too tight on your wrist I recommend a Barton watch band in either canvas or leather. Easy to install and they come in a large variety of colors. Bottom line I would recommend this watch to anyone. This is going to be my outdoor watch for hiking, hunting, camping, etc. ... show more

  • It's awesome watch but..
I love this watch, but I gave it a 3 for not being able to use it at night. I cannot see anything glowing at night and that would of been a deal breaker if I had known this before. I work outside in the dark and this is an issue. Walmart watches glow in the dark.. come on citizen I expect more for the price.. ... show more

  • A great investment!
This is my second purchase of this watch, same style, different color. It is Ecco- friendly (solar powered). The first purchased was five years ago and remains dependable . The only accessory replaced was the wrist band bought also from same company.
