  • Nice start for beginners
Style: 3-Compressor
I got this because I wanted to sound like how I hear other guitarists sound. First thought was it was smaller than I thought. I gave it to the guitar player at the church for him to test it to really tell me what he thinks and his response was “cool you’re on my way to building your pedal board”. The only reason I didn’t give it 5 starts is because it doesn’t come with a power cord and it’s not battery operated. ... show more

  • Great value-priced Sustain Pedal
Style: 3-Compressor
This little puppy does everything you want a compressor to do and it does it well. Is it as good as the $100+ compressors? Ah, no, but those mostly have subtle things about them that color the tone and have a certain feel. This compressor from RVONE is basic, but very functional. It’ll make your guitar sustain like it’s supposed to and mellow out the attacks if you want that. It’s pretty clean sounding and my only negative would be that it could use a bit more gain, but then again, you’re not going to find that at this price point. At this price point, this pedal screams, plus that shell has some really cool scalloped edges, like waves of sound that sometimes are silky mellow and at other times need to go to 11. This actually is going on my keyboard pedal board to even out some of my patches. ... show more

  • Decent chorus pedal
Style: 5-Chorus
Some info for beginners: These inexpensive mini pedals don't have battery compartments so you'll need a power supply. Plug your guitar into the right side of this and then run another cable from the pedal to your amp, or run it between the Send and Return if your amp has an effects loop. Review: This is an affordable and decent enough chorus pedal. Since it's two knobs and uses a BBD chip, it's likely modeled after old pedals like the Boss CE2 and Ibanez CS9. It's solidly made and looks cool with the symbol and extra ridges, though I wish it had arrows indicating input vs output. Note it's not a stereo chorus; it's just one output. Soundwise, it "does the chorus thing" you hear in songs like "Every Breath You Take" and "Come as You Are," and you won't be disappointed if that's just what you want. I don't have a classic BBD pedal to compare it to, but I do have an Azor Goat Chorus that's digital and only a little more expensive. For what it's worth, when I compared them side by side I actually preferred the digital Azor one -- it seemed a bit more "lush" and saturated the sound more (and has a mix knob so you can adjust the strength of the original signal), where this one seemed to affect the original signal a little less. Personally, when I turn on chorus I want to really hear the chorus! But some might prefer it subtle and every effect sounds different with different equipment. ... show more

  • A super simple, very inexpensive, and, of course, limited piece of gear.
Style: 6-Noise Gate
Check the price on this before you take this as a negative review. You can see that it is very inexpensive, under $30 at the time of this writing. So therefore, the fact that it actually works as a noise gate, and does a decent job, is quite encouraging. It worked to quiet down hiss between notes on high gain settings, and the ONE knob worked smoothly to phase in the suppression, until you hit about 8, and then it just mutes all the sound. It has only that one knob, so an internal algorithm is doing all the work and giving you its best. Compare that to, for instance, the Boss NS-1X that allows switching between gate/suppressor, and tailoring of the actions within. Yes, and compare the price, which is almost 7x as much. ... show more
