I bought this volume of Chopin Nocturnes to replace an aging copy I have that is falling apart. To my delight, this was the exact same publication as the one I initially bought over 50 years ago! I specifically wanted this edition to replace my old one because I find Paderewski's fingerings useful.

    • The standard edition, but poor binding and missing the posthumous ones

This is the classic standard edition of the Chopin Nocturnes that most pianists use, including students and professionals. Almost all of the old legends used it, with the notable exception of Artur Rubinstein, who had personal beef with Paderewski. So you can count on this to be as accurate and well-presented as anything else. If your piano teacher told you to get the nocturnes, this is probably the edition they had in mind. If you're a beginner or self-taught, you might consider using the Alfred Masterworks editions instead, since they provide more guidance with fingerings and phrasing. However, this edition contains enough fingering suggestions that it is still accessible to less advanced players. These fingerings are generally quite good, and will be of use to advanced players as well. Two complaints. One is that the binding isn't ideal for playing at the piano. It won't stay open to a particular page unless you break the spine or use a magnet. My other complaint is that it only includes the 19 canonical nocturnes–– it does not contain the posthumous ones! Although this is an understandable editorial decision, these are highly popular pieces and buyers would expect them in a complete edition. So be warned! If you are hoping to play the Nocturne No. 20 in C# Minor or Nocturne No. 21 in C Minor, you will need to look elsewhere! ... show more

One of the most famous nocturne #20 in C#m is not in this book when the title of this book says complete nocturnes which is very miss leading.
