Hardware install took 15 minutes. DFU restore was 30 minutes. Backed-up to and restored from a Time Machine backup on a USB flash drive. Super fast. 4500MB read and 3500MB write. Straight forward installation. This is only day one, but so far, great! Looks to be of a similar design and quality of the OEM drive that was replaced.

I bought this product without such high expectations. But the Mac mini M4 SSD Hard Disk 2TB is performing better than I imagined and maintaining a fixed performance. So I’m going to buy another one for my setup. Thanks to the producers and distributors who made such a great product. "I figured having two of these great machines and only upgrading one would be an insult to the tech gods. So, I had to do it.” (Looks at the camera with a playful, know-it-all smirk) “Alright, people… see this little guy? This is my Mac mini M4 SSD Hard Disk 2TB. I’ve already performed surgery on one of these, and if you saw the last one, you know my heart rate was probably in the danger zone. But honestly… after you’ve done it once, the fear kind of… fades away. (Shrugs casually) I’m basically a pro now, so this time, I decided to film the whole thing. If I mess up? Hey, I’ll just upload a ‘Second-Time’s-the-Fail’ video. (Looks genuinely worried for a second) No, no, that won’t happen. Probably. Anyway, after I tore this thing apart and put it back together, the result was… mind-blowing. Installed and worked without any issues

Check out all of the tutorials on the Tube. Follow those instructions and you'll be alright. The hardest part is getting the M4 Mini case open. Have a quality set of torx bits on hand - a silicon based mac - a good data transfer cable - and you are good to go. I was surprised at how easy it went, as well as how quickly everything was recognized and up and running. I bought a used M4 - booted it once to make sure it worked and then installed this chip - module - whatever you want to call it. The second boot was just as flawless as the first. I didn't disconnect any cables, you can if you want, but don't need to. The board appeared to be of good quality when compared to the original but that is just my opinion and not based on any history of inspecting printed circuit boards.

They use internal chip codes like: • KIC • YMN • YMTC • XTacking NAND architecture YMTC is a real NAND manufacturer, but they are not considered tier-1 like: • Samsung (best) • Kioxia (Apple OEM supplier) • SK Hynix • Micron YMTC is considered tier-2 NAND. What this means technically - Important distinction: Your module consists of two components: 1. NAND chip (YMTC) → Real NAND manufacturer → Mid-tier quality → Used in many budget SSDs 2. Very Great Very Cheap

Very nice upgrade SSD upgrade for an Mac Mini M4

I have done a great many computer upgrades and repairs over several decades. I would put this installation in the easy category. Having said that, watch some YouTube videos showing how to do this upgrade and take your time. If you’re in hurry, it is possible to damage something or overlook something important. You also need another Apple Silicon Mac or an Intel Mac with a T2 security chip to do a DFU firmware restore on your Mini M4 after installation. I used a 2018 Intel based Mac Mini for this step. My Mac Mini M4 is working great so far with this 2TB. Performance is roughly 3000MB/sec for both reading and writing. I am hopeful this will last for the life of the computer.

A great upgrade with more capacity AND speed than the original Mac drive

Installing this was a leap into the unknown, but pretty painless. I use my mini for pro music creation, and it doesn't break a sweat hosting and running multiple virtual instruments in Logic Pro. The fact that my machine also runs faster with this aftermarket drive means that I saved money while getting more storage and higher speeds. Do make a note that some of the screws that need to be removed may be a bit different than described in the online video, so have more sizes on hand, just in case. A full set of small Torx drivers will come inhandy anyway. I left a 4 rather than 5 star review because I don't know how this drive will hold up. I'll update in about a year. However, I don't hesitate to recommend it.

Here are the condensed instructions to upgrade the Mac mini M4 SSD using a second Mac computer.
Capacity: M4-2TB
I am very impressed by the 2TB Deepsea Mac mini M4 SSD. Some things you should consider before installation are listed below: 1) All the tools you need to perform the upgrade (shown in the product picture) are included in the box compartment beneath the SSD. 2) To install the SSD follow the iFIXIT guide closely - though, you don't need to detach any ribbon cables/wires to perform the disassembly. 3) To perform the DFU mode Restore follow Apple's instructions to the letter! 4) I used an M2 MacBook Pro as the DFU host so I didn't need to install Apple Configurator from the Mac App Store. 5) Make sure to use the proper DFU port on the Mac mini M4 during the Restore; it is the middle USB-C port - the one with the lightning bolt above it. 6) Use a beefy USB-C cable capable of data and power transmission. I had to use my 2M Apple USB-C cable because my 1M Apple USB-C cable (smaller diameter) would not connect. Do not use a Thunderbolt 3 cable per the instructions. 7) Immediately after restoring the Mac mini M4 you will not find stable disk speed tests while Spotlight is indexing macOS Tahoe. I was able to achieve stable disk speeds after waiting overnight to test. Best of luck in your upgrade journey! I am looking forward to see if the upgraded SSD is reliable. I will definitely update this review if there is any problem over the life of my Mac mini M4.
