One statement says these are meant for 1-3/8 pipe. I used these inside my 1-5/8 top rail pipe for my chain link fence. I need to extend my 4' gate to 6' for my new tractor. These fit inside the 1-5/8" pipe perfect. I installed one self tapping screw of each side of the splice and it worked to perfection. Highly preferred inside to the sloppy look outside. I made my cuts using a tubing cutter so it would be perfectly straight. I could not be happier how it turned out. ... show more

I know others have noted that the fit is not tight. That's true to an extent, but if it were much tighter there might be issues fitting onto existing pipe. It doesn't seem to be a problem once it's all put together. Saved me a bunch of extra pipe purchases and saved a lot of time. My fallen tree limb crushed my neighbor's fence so I had to repair it. I was able to use more of the existing pipe with these. Neighbor said it came out great. ... show more
