This filter comes installed black side up. You have to take the filter out of the plastic frame and flip it over and reinstall. Then insert into your car. The filter is held in the frame by one spot of hot glue. I glued mine back into place once I flipped it over so it would stay in the frame once I installed it into my car.     • Doesn't fit straight outta the box
When you take this filter out of the box it is inside of a plastic "frame" (if you will) which does not fit in your Subaru Crosstrek. If you remove it from that plastic frame the filter itself is the same size as the one you pull out of your glove box and it's okay.

    • poor fitment - filter element installed backwards, bad compatibility with OEM airbox
DO NOT BUY THIS! The product is composed of 2 main parts, the filter element, and the plastic frame. I have two major issues with the product I received. First, the plastic frame has some 'clips' that hold it into position when installed in the airbox, and the clips on the frame I received were not well-formed in the molding process, and do not hold the filter securely in position when installed into the car. The filter can easily pop out of position. Second, the filter element is installed (and glued) into the plastic frame so the airflow is going the wrong way through the filter element. I would have to risk destroying the whole product to remove the filter element and flip it, and then figure out some way to glue it back into place. For anyone curious, I have a 2015 Subaru Forester XT. I wholeheartedly recommend against this low quality product. I should have just bought an OEM filter; this is what I deserve for trying to save a few dollars. ... show more
