  • Understanding the Basics
This book is great for understanding the basic principles of Ceramic Art. The Author focuses on history and the foundation of ceramics, types of pottery forms, a light read of glaze information as well as kiln types and usage. I recommend for most to read as it gives you a perspective on old and new ideologies and appreciation for what was and what now is. ... show more

  • A book full of useful information for exploring with clay
I have been teaching clay explorations, looking for ideas and information to inspire my students. This book with its many photographs of clay creations both finished and in process has been a springboard for the imagination. The chapters dedicated to clay formulas and glazing compounds would appeal to anyone setting up their own studio. Plenty here for an affordable price. ... show more

  • Good resource
This book is a good resource, but it unlikely you will use it much for you undergraduate class as most of it is quite basic and you will probably learn the information in class.

  • Very Disappointed
The book is not in good condition as advertised. It has a torn cover with deep creases and faded color. The pages are stained and worn.

  • Like watching paint dry
Had to have been written by someone who writes text books. For a tech manual it is extremely boring. Has the basics from beginning to end. Recipes for glazes are dated as most are lead based, but it's an old book. I paid .18 cents for and it was worth that. My other books I purchased were newer and a better investment. I find it hard to believe that the asking price for the newest version of this book would worth it. Most of the information I was looking for was nothing more than a general overview. If you get this book don't spend a bunch on it.....it's Ok at best The Practical Potter..Josie Warshaw was not a better overview, but it was a more interesting read, and what is not contained in the book can be looked up on the web. After the reviews I had seen on this book. I am very disappointed. There are better books available, look around. ... show more
