I held off reviewing these plates to see if they stood up to use, and I will admit, they don't look any worse than when I purchased them, but to be honest, they are just never going to be nice looking plates. The finish is dull. . and I don't mean just like semi-gloss or satin, but dull and rough. I realize "Matt black" is an apt description, except they are sort of rough, and honestly, it feels like you are eating off of cast iron, and for other than steak, yeah, not a big fan. I tried using them decoratively, but they just are wide enough to be a plate, but not large enough to be a display plate. Just look closely at the photos and if that is the look you desire, well, then certainly they will work for you. ... show more

    • Very rough surface
These plates were the perfect "in-between" size I needed for dessert plates. The black color is also very striking. Unfortunately they're also a bit of an oddity - the food surface doesn't just look "matte", it is rough and almost porous. This is the first food dish I've ever seen like this and I'm not sure that I like it - it is unusual to say the least. Perhaps there's some utility to this that I'm not cultured or sophisticated enough to understand? Forks and spoons audibly scrape across the surface rather than glide, and soft food sticks more easily to the rough surface. I expected to have trouble cleaning them, but they do clean up fine so far. I can't recommend these unless you want plates with a rough surface for some reason. ... show more
