  • We are addicted!
Style: Century: Spice Road
We are fans of the Splendor board game, but we’re looking for an alternative to keep things interesting. We LOVE this game! It takes a bit to understand, but one we “got it” we were addicted. This is a great game for both teens and adults. It is a strategy/trading game so I do think younger teens would struggle with it. We find that it is most interesting with 3 or more players. Two can play but we feel it moves too fast that way. This is now one of our “go to” games. ... show more

  • Addictive!
Style: Century: Spice Road
We are hooked. We have played it so much that we need a new set of cards—definitely not a quality issue; we have simply played that much! Great game for persons school-aged and up. If they know colors and numbers, they can play!

  • Chips vs jewels
Style: Century: Spice Road
Game is great but is not the version that has actual jewels. This one has chips with the picture of the jewel on it.

  • Favorite new game!
Style: Century: Spice Road
I bought this over the holidays and my family loved it. This game is a bit complicated the first several rounds. But after playing it a few times people caught on quite well. It is a game you can play several times without getting tired of it easily. Each round is different which keeps it from getting monotonous. Some of the games my family likes is Settlers of Catan, Ticket to Ride, Carcassonne, and Risk. I would say it ranks similar to those. Not super complicated, but takes some learning. I would recommend this to any game lover. ... show more

  • Great game!

My 12 year old daughter and I love strategy games and this one did not disappoint. a friend recommended it and now I recommend it to you as well. reminded me of Splendor, where you collect different resources to collect cards of value.

  • Solid game, with wide appeal.
Style: Century: Spice Road
I wouldn't call it a splendor killer but I get why it draws comparisons. It's a pretty simple (mechanically) game, and at the end of the day is pretty abstract (yes you're collecting and trading spices, but it could be anything). But in this simplicity lies its appeal. I can teach this to a relative gaming newb in less than 5 minutes. 1 drawback (this is a personal issue more than a problem with the game) is that the game tends to unfold over 2 stages. The first half of the game is jockeying to acquire the best cards (building an effective combination of cards in your hand). The second half of the game has limited card acquisition, and is mostly just playing sequences of the cards acquired in the first half. A couple notes - this could just be the dominant strategy of those I play with, since by no means, is this methodology required to play the game. Second, this isn't inherently a bad thing (two different feeling halves to the game, but it's not something I generally like - i prefer some consistency in games, with a natural escalation. I'm curious to play with the 2 additional expansions (they are standalone games that can be combined with century spice road, but i'm hesistant to commit to purchase those other games since century spice road is only a above average, but not excellent, game in my opinion. ... show more
