I live at a home in a city and my garbage has to be outside in the summer, plus I have a small backyard. This causes fly issues and I purchased these to help keep them away from me while I am enjoying my backyard space. I have purchased at least 6 of them and you will be amazed at how many flies it catches, it's crazy. You may not think it's working at first, give it a couple days. I would also recommend putting them away from any areas where you could smell it, the smell of the device is strong, but that's the whole point. I will continue to buy this product. This product really works well. It caught so many flies over several days but then I noticed the water moving inside the jar. When I took a closer look…it was full of live maggots…so I understand maggots are the larvae stage of flies…but the trap trapped flies and then the maggots came. Kinda backwards isn’t it? We’re the flies maybe pregnant? Does anyone know why this happens? I tried Google, but it just tells me maggots turn into flies not the other way around. I’m very confused. At amy rate, this product is easy to Use, kinda stinky, but I can live with that…it’s so good at catching the flies, I got over the stink. ... show more

Amazingly this works well. It almost seems like we have a slightly larger array of flies than before. So it attracts very well. But warning if you also have a sensitive nose, place well away from eating areas, does have an aroma not fitting for eating areas.

If I could just give it 5 stars for attracting flies, I would. It attracted and trapped a lot of flies in two days. Here is my downside. After two days I seemed to have even more flies on my back patio. The containers that I hung around the patio smelled so bad after two days that it brought more flies. So, I guess my advice would be to hang them up the day before garbage pick up and take them down after 24 hours and dispose of them. ... show more

I activated the first one and when after 3 days it did not attract flies, I realized I had mistaken the fill line and out in too much water So I activated a second one. After two days when it did not attract even one fly, I planned to return the stuff thinking that the lure stuff had gone bad. So I put some raw meat in the first ome Then because the devices would not lock to open as instructions said they would, I put a twig in the gap to hold the top open and hung it back in the sun. The next day that one began filling with flies. The next day the second one began attracting a few flies. Since I wanted refillable traps I decided I !might as well keep these and use raw meat as bait and put twigs in the gap to keepthem open. The supermarket traps I used before began working the same day and I was free of flies for weeks least a week before they were full and likely to tear if I tried to reuse them. It was a disappointing experience to have spent so much and had to endure flies for so long before they worked and not have the top click open as it was supposed to. I will not buy this brand again ... show more

My first problem was the lid will not stay open 2. You have to put these well away from people as the smell is bad. 3. I sat it on concrete and it got tipped over and i lost the chemical. It must be hung to keep lid open and prevent spills. I found a better option.
