Ordered this tmobile-locked CAT S22 FLIP phone from here on amazon for like fifty bucks & received next day in the morning. This amazon renewed phone LOOKS LIKE A NEW PHONE. And YAY this tmobile-locked android flip phone works with my TextNow nano sim. TextNow is a free tmobile mvno. Insert the TextNow nano sim card & setup the textnow APN & install the TextNow app. Calls both outgoing & incoming work via textnow cellular data when you are away from your wifi. This phone has android11 (go edition) -- and my textnow app actually installs on this phone. Google Play System fortunately looks like it still gets updates. The display is touchscreen & therefore you can use android like on a regular smartphone. And the number keypad works too. Have always wanted an android flipphone like this CAT S22 FLIP to use with my textnow sim card for free calls & texts. LOL this flip is kinda like a poorman's substitute for a moto razr flip phone -- and just insert my textnow sim card to have free calls & txts as well as free essential data which provides free cellular data to power my calls & texts as well as my gmail & google maps when I'm on the go away from my wifi. FYI: This is IP68 waterproof & is a military-rugged MIL STD SPEC 810H heavy-duty durable phone. When folded shut, it's kinda like the size of a good-size fist-size rock that you can throw in self-defense. It's certainly bigger & tougher & more rugged than your old school dumb flip phones. However just as easy to use yet has smarts because it runs android -- and can take my textnow sim card for free calls & texts. Battery at 2000mAh could be better but I'm also ordering a better 3200mAh battery from here on amazon -- plus I'll have to restrict battery use on most apps -- and also should NOT go hog wild installing all sorts of apps particularly since only have 16GB storage on this phone.     • Perfect "dumb" phone for a grad student that needs focus
Coming from a flip phone with only talk and text, this thing is a fantastic way for me to keep the dumb phone philosophy and be able to use smart apps again. Just keep in mind that out of the box the thing is bloated to the brim with google spyware and is a slow, unresponsive battery pig. It took me hours to disable these apps and replace them with functioning open source apps from F-droid. Now it's just as responsive as my wife's iPhone and the battery lasts longer than hers now too, around 2-3 days with moderate usage for me. Some apps and webpages aren't properly developed for such a small screen though and can get cut off, but I can usually find a way around it if needed. Typing anything on the phone either using T9 typing or the onscreen keyboard is also perfectly inconvenient and uncomfortable enough that you really won't want to use it for media consumption, but everything does function properly and you can use smart apps when you really need them. Also since it runs android you can also use tools like universal android debloater to hard disable any app you want such as the browser or all the uninstallable google apps like YouTube. However I haven't found this to be necessary for me so far and I do want to be able to use these apps if I need them on the go. Other pros: It has a removable battery, so I bought a few extras to do battery swaps, so "charging" takes about a minute with this setup. Another small bonus is that I have better posture using the phone due to the positioning of the screen. Also, can we talk about the price? I'm pretty sure this phone MSRPed for around $300, but it seems like they are just trying to get rid of them now with these too good to be true prices. Modern day smartphones seem to be designed in every aspect to control the user rather than the other way around, big screens and a user experience that is way too easy and seamless. This phone allows me to use smart apps while also regaining the control these devices have taken from me by making the user experience clunky and painful enough that I want to spend as little time on this device as possible. ... show more
