  • you can copy songs to the onboard memory and skip the apps
Pattern Name: Keyboard
The media could not be loaded. I think this is a great keyboard for beginners. you can learn to play without learning sheet music or musical theory on this keyboard although you should learn those things too. it has a lot of instruments and built in songs and even some piano exercises to help you learn. it is not built like a child's toy and the control panel is minimal and not too distracting. most people will be happy enough with mary had a little lamb and yankee doodle but I was able to push it to do more for me with some computer skills. I wanted a product that lets me learn to play based on my own midi files. this isn't that difficult with the apps that casio makes. both chordana play and casio music space got me connected to my galaxy s20 FE when I used a male USB-C to female USB-A adapter and an ordinary micro USB cable. but I don't want to plug in my phone all the time or buy the overpriced bluetooth adapter that casio makes. some people also hate the apps or their phone doesn't want to cooperate. the apps have tons of negative reviews since so many people can't get it to work. you can instead load the songs with a flash drive and never use the phone as long as you are really good with FL Studio. I found the midi file I wanted to play and I went into FL Studio and duplicated the file in a project. I used "split by channel" to separate all the channels so they could become separate tracks. in one of the tracks I deleted all but the left hand notes and in the other I had the right hand notes. then I had to use the channel rack to specify the instruments for each hand, and finally I had to use the macro called "prepare for midi export" so I could designate each of these to a midi channel. I suggest you use channel 3 for the left hand and channel 4 for the right hand. these are the defaults on the keyboard. after that I was able to export the project to a midi file including events like the tempo changing over the song. I copied the file to the keyboard with a FAT32 formatted flash drive. the midi files should be placed in a folder called MUSICDAT so the keyboard can see them. I didn't see this in the manual but if you mess up the channel numbers you can start the song by pressing the SONG button, and then there is a menu to specify the channel for each hand. if you didn't separate each hand's notes into their own channels you can also just pick the one channel that has the notes, but you won't get the feature where you can just practice only one hand. once you have specified the channels per hand in the SONG mode you can change to the LESSON mode and it will remember the configuration until you shut the keyboard off. it is more convenient to get everything right in FL Studio first but that process is very complicated and not documented anywhere. I still have not figured out how in LESSON mode to get it to say the number of each finger when I am about to play a note. it does this with all the built in songs. otherwise I am happy with my setup. it took me hours to learn how to prepare the file but I was totally naive to FL Studio. ... show more

  • Great lighted keyboard for beginners
Pattern Name: Keyboard
This LK-S450 lighted keyboard is perfect for beginners and the like. The lessons are awesome! It's quality made, light weight, and great form factor. There is an optional Bluetooth adapter. Please note: After much research, the Bluetooth adapter WU-BT10 is not for connecting Bluetooth headphones. If you are looking for that function search Male Stereo Mini Bluetooth adapter. This will allow your Bluetooth headphones/earbuds to connect. Pretty cool? Definitely! If you are not needing the lighted keyboard feature, look at the Casio CT-S500, keep in mind it comes with the WU-BT10 adapter, a $79.95 value. Good luck, and hope some of this information was helpful. ... show more

  • Lots of potential, but needs smoother interface with app
Pattern Name: Keyboard
This keyboard was purchased for beginning piano study. The lighted keys have a lot of potential to assist learning, but the interface with Casio's three apps was clunky and frustrating. The exercises, which are needed to start as an absolute beginner, are not even included in the apps. This means no score to watch or fingering assistance (through the app). I did eventually find most of the included lesson songs (not exercises) in pdf form on the Casio Music Space app. There is inconsistency in the availability of features for songs included in the apps, some you could put into a step by step learning mode, others not, etc. Everything felt very unpolished and not really ready for release. What I wanted and what was not possible on this keyboard, was a smooth interaction between the lighted keys and a tutorial program starting at the beginner level. All the hardware is there for this to happen, but the software needs to be improved to take full advantage of the equipment. Otherwise the keyboard seemed to perform as expected. Returning and continuing my search. ... show more

  • it is a great piano for learners
Pattern Name: Keyboard
If you are comparing this with the Yamaha EZ-300 there are a few points: 1. The Casio LK-S450 has keys that are less springy. It is a semi weighted type of key, and is closer to the real piano touch. 2. The lesson would tell you to use which finger, if you wait a little bit. So this is great for beginners, because sometimes they don't know which finger to use without a teacher guiding them. 3. The sound system of this LK-S450 is AiX, which is similar to a German Concert Grand Piano. (Note the LK-S250 doesn't have it). The Yamaha EZ-300 need a little bit catch up for that. So if you don't mind paying another $250 to learn some more songs from the lessons, you can get both the Yamaha and the Casio one. If you want to get one first, then if it is me, I'd prefer the Casio one. ... show more
