    • Affordable travel backpack
I bought this backpack for a 4 day trip to NYC where we would be getting in early and wanted time to spend in the city before checking into our hotel at 3pm. It's truly 52L, noticeably bigger than the 40L Matein travel backpack I bought my husband. The material is nice and soft, the straps and back has padding to help cushion any weight and there's a chest strap that came in handy to distribute the weight. I was able to comfortably pack for the trip, bring toiletries, a spare pair of flats, and bring back souvenirs without even expanding the back. It does have loops on the zippers to lock your bag if you need to and the many pockets were a nice feature! It held up really well for a full day of traveling in airports and around the city. The top of the backpack has two handles with a snap button to hold them together whicb actually broke before I even got to the airport so it was annoying that those handles were in the way when walking if I didn't move them. Otherwise it was a great buy and nothing else has broken or frayed. I searched and researched reviews for all kinds of travel backpacks but didn't want to spend $100+. As for being a personal item, likely way too big for some airlines just in the height alone. It is about the size of a carryon luggage and although I put it under the seat in front of me, I didn't have that much feet space (I flew southwest). I'm 5'5" and this did feel like a big backpack but I didn't have any issues carrying it all day when it weighed ~15-20lbs. I do wish there were other colors as the beige/cream is pretty but I can see it getting dirty pretty easily. Other reviews are right in that the sides are soft but once you fill it, it's not an issue to be concerned about.     • Great Large Carry-On Backpack
I used this for an international trip to Europe. It’s definitely big (I’m pretty short and petite so my husband laughed at the size on me) but I was able to pack a few changes of clothes, a pair of shoes, travel liquids, my laptop, and a few work folders and notebooks. On some flights this fit without issue under the seat in front of me. Other smaller planes it had to go overhead, but no issues using as a carry on. I liked this option in lieu of a hard rolling carry on as I was traveling with others for work and needed to be sure all of our luggage could fit into European sized cars. I LOVE this bag! It is carry on approved but you won’t be able to take a rolling carry on plus this bag because it’s essentially the same size as a rolling bag. I honestly prefer it to the roller because the compartments allow perfect organization and separation of items. I’ve used it twice already and gotten a lot of compliments and questions. ... show more

Very impressed by large amount of space available. Plenty of pockets. The shoe compartment even fit my hiking boots! Would recommend as a carry on. Probably pushes limits for how large a carry on can be if you stuff it to the brim, but I didn’t have any actual problems at airport. Very cute

I love all the compartments and that it expands with a zipper. I took five days of clothes in this bag and had plenty of room for more. Only thing I wish it had would be a water bottle holder, then it would be the perfect bag.

The MATEIN Store Carry on Backpack is quite large for a backpack. It's been several years since I last flew but, this backpack is larger than the bag I brought on board and that one was close to the maximum size allowed. I would use this more for a trip by car. There are two pockets in the front for items to which you need easiest access. The shoulder straps are comfortable even when I packed the bag nearly to capacity and had some heavy items in the bag. Inside is a large zippered pocket in terms of length times width but, depth isn't very much (especially if you have the front pockets filled as that stuff would push against that inside zipper pocket). At the bottom outer part of the bag is a zippered compartment for shoes. Inside, opposite the shallow zippered pocket is where most of your items will fit. There are straps that snap together to hold clothing in place. Things that are smaller, that the straps can't hold in place, will move when you pick up the bag to hold by the handles or put the bag on your back. I find the included cable to be unnecessary. I wouldn't charge any device with either the device or a battery pack inside a closed bag or bag that contains clothing. After the last power outage when the electric company updated estimated repair time was several hours and the house quickly heated up from 90° temperature and a heat index close to 100°, it occured to me that I need an easy to carry bag that allows me to keep my hands free. I need to have one hand free for my dog on his leash and the other hand free for a small bag of his food. The other bag (that's smaller than this one) will be used to carry water, bowls for my dog, gatorade and several other things that I'll carry on my arm. Where I live, there is no safe place for a generator due to window placement in my house and my neighbor's house. So, should another outage happen in dangerous heat, I'll go to family who lives an hour away. Having this backpack able to hold important papers for my dog, medical supplies for my dad, my dog's meds and then other itens that I would need will make a stressful situation better. I would have selected a darker color bag to hide any marks it might get from the wheels of my dad's wheelchair with these things in my trunk. I hope my pictures help you determine if this bag will serve your purpose. Please note that some spots inside the largest packing area of my backpack are two layers deep of bulky products that can't be folded. Monitoring my dad's health is vital and so not only is there room for the monitors I hold onto (like a blood pressure monitor and the pressure cuffs and a forehead battery powered thermometer), there is room in there for his home INR monitor, the needles, and strips as well as items for checking blood sugar. ... show more
