Description

Here’s how easy it will be to use your newspaper pot maker to create your own quick and easy, biodegradable pots to start your own seedlings. These pot makers are terrific for teaching kids about growing plants from seed and give a terrific hands on experience creating the pot. This little wooden tool is the perfect machine for making seed planting pots. Step 1. Cut or tear a piece of newspaper or craft paper into a strip that measures approximately 3 1/2 inches wide and 10 inches long. Step 2. Roll the paper around the bottom part of the handle and press and fold the paper under the end. Step 3. Press the paper into the base. This is the step that makes the newspaper take shape into a 2" paper pot. No glue is required! Step 4. Remove the paper pot from the handle. Step 5. Fill the paper pot with potting soil and plant your seed or transplant a small seedling directly into the paper pot. Step 6. When the seedling is ready to go outside, you can plant the entire pot directly into the soil of your garden. The newspaper will decompose quickly and the roots will be able to grow through.

  • Looks Weird, but Super Useful & Convenient
I wanted to start seeds this year, but didn't want to spend a fortune on the plastic trays that just end up going to the landfill. I read about making biodegradable pots with old newspaper, but it looked kind of tedious. I happened to see an ad for this product and clicked on it, then read about it, and decided to purchase it. It makes creating pots from old newspaper, as well as paper grocery bags, very simple. You just wrap a strip of the paper around the spherical part, then smash it into the base. You quite quickly have yourself a little seed starting pot! They are paper and biodegradable, so you can just dig a hole and plop it in your garden when it has warmed up outside. You can use a can or a bottle to make the pots, too, but I I feel like this is better if you have to make a lot of paper pots because it's easy to hold, doesn't slip around, and the base helps to make a sturdy bottom. ... show more

  • LOVE LOVE LOVE! Great starter pots for herbs & small veggies!
Super easy to use and makes versatile pots for rooted herbs, flowers and small veggie seeds! TIP 1 - makes best/sturdy pots with 2 layers of newsprint, one wider on outside, shorter on inside. TIP 2 - Use the dowel to measure the width of paper, tip to groove in handle for narrow strips, Tip to tip for wider ones. My one ask of manufacturer. Make a larger version too. This tool makes a 2" pot, would love a 4" version for my larger starter plants like tomatoes! ... show more

  • Not miraculous but seems fine
I thought it was a good item but I gave it as a gift and the avid gardener recipient wasn't thrilled with it. Oh, well. It wasn't a lot of money.

  • Works very well!
Well crafted and just cute! Made a lot of paper pots with this tool and my kids enjoyed helping me make them. Perfect for starting seeds and I can plant directly into the soil. Highly recommend, was a great price for the quality as well!

  • Great little paper pots for your seedlings!
Great little pot maker! So far I have made about 60 little pots for my transplanted seedlings (basil, purple cone flowers, straw flowers). I have tried newspaper and paper shopping bags. Both work. I make 20-30 pots quickly while watching tv. Great way to recycle paper! Hold up just fine. My plants are about 3 inches high now and will be transplanted after Mother's Day. Fun gadget. Easy to use. ... show more

  • Don’t really know how it works
I am assuming this little trinket was amazing but my ungrateful family member who received it as a gift never let me know how or if it was amazing. They’re all about saving the planet and growing things on their land using biodegradable products. Let’s go with 5 stars because I thought it was the neatest little thing. ... show more

  • It works!
We used scrap printer paper but I think that was a bit to thick. Try using newspaper. Keep the soil moist after planting so it will dissolve the paper. It's good way to start your crops inside the house in early spring.

  • Be prepared for hours of sanding before using.
I was so excited to receive this! I had about 100 strips of newspaper all cut and ready to go. Tore the packaging open to get to the minimalistic box (loved that!) it comes in. I knew exactly how to use it as I used my friend's and loved it. But, much to my chagrin, it wouldn't fit together. I had to really force it in. Forget adding newspaper. It was way too tight. I tried sanding it with fine grit sandpaper. Any rough edges would just tear the paper. After a half hour of that, I could get them to fit together but I had to align it just right. The circle shape of the wood (the bigger piece) wasn't exactly circular. I finally ended up getting 80 grit sandpaper and sanding it down that way. Then going back to the fine grit to get it glass-smooth again. I spent over an hour going back and forth between the two sandpapers until I could finally fit the two pieces together smoothly. Success!!! I spent the night rolling little paper pots (2 per minute) while listening to a gardening podcast. As for making the actual pots, don't twist it. My paper was about 10 inches long by 3 inches wide. Roll it up tightly, leaving about 3/4 of an inch overhang - for folding in the bottom. When done rolling, make 3 inward folds and then push it into the base real good. Don't twist it back and forth as you'll tear up the bottom of your little paper pot. Overall, I love this thing. It's way better than the ibuprofen container I was using before! But that said, I wasn't feeling too good about right out of the box. Had I not ever used one before, I absolutely would've returned it. I still recommend the product even though I spent more time making it useful than the manufacturer did! So hopefully you get one that functions right out of the adorable box. ... show more
