    • A terrific 7 position, soprano trombone with adjustable leadpipe tuning!
I love the CarolBrass Bb soprano trombone (the correct terminology IMO) so much that I bought a second one as a spare. I had been considering the purchase of a soprano trombone for many years, but rejected the Miraphone and Jupiter instruments due to the overall tuning mechanism, which is limited to adjustability at the junction between the bell section and hand slide. I was hoping that a manufacturer would someday produce an instrument with tuning in the hand slide like the vintage Conn 16A soprano 'cornet.' During my semi-annual search for the 'right' horn, I ran across the the CarolBrass soprano trombone, which has adjustable leadpipe tuning and purchased one immediately upon discovery. The leadpipe can be adjusted far more than needed to tune horn while playing with a practice mute (Best Brass Warm-up or Wallace Studio in my case). The bell and handslide sections are connected with a screw down tenon like any proper trombone. Slide action was excellent out of the box on both horns and continued to improve with use. I use Trombotine with a water spray on my horns, but Slide-O-Mix and Yamaha (snot) lube also work well. Fit is excellent, but there were a few minor lacquer imperfections on one horn. The gig bag is a little cheap, but decent with a fair amount of padding. It's certainly not as protective as a hard shell case. It has an outer pocket for mouthpiece and small accessory storage. A plastic 7C mouthpiece included. I use a Curry 5C with a Monster Sleeve which serves as a counterweight, which I need when playing muted. Left hand placement is a bit cramped, so I also fitted a NeoTech trombone grip which works well. This trombone has a full 7 positions with 4th position at the bell flare. Some of the folks on Trombone Chat and Trumpet Herald claim that there is no repertoire for an instrument of this type. Wrong! Play trombone or Bb trumpet music - this horn can do it all. Intonation is, of course, better than any valved instrument and this horn definitely sounds more trombonish than trumpety to my ears. Finally, the purchase of one trombone from Amazon shipping from CarolBrass was hassle free and everything arrived in great shape. I purchased this for my son who is a tenor trombone player. It took him about an hour playing around on it to figure out how to adjust his embouchure to produce a surprising full tone. For an instrument this size and at this price, compared to concert instrument, this can be more than just a fun instrument. He said the range is terrific. ... show more

    • Well Built and Delivered FAST for the price!
First foray into the world of Soprano Trombone (Which is the proper name BTW..) and this horn gave me a great opportunity to get in at an affordable price. This is one of the few tiny bones to have explicit tuning capability which is great. The horn itself was clearly well built and came without any defects that I can see. I would probably prefer the "base pitch" of the instrument was a bit sharper as you can pull the tuning slide out but can't push it in any farther than "all the way" but it's largely in tune without that so works anyway. The horn also arrived a full day early of an already pretty quick estimate so.. :) ... show more
