  • Very impressed
Size: 8 inches
Read alot of reviews and some say the coating hinders it at first but i tell you what this thing rocked, i debarked a fresh cut pine log 14 foot long 10 inches around in about an hour, this thing kicked butt and worked so good that im having a hard time typing because im so sore, highly recommend

  • If you know what you're doing...
Size: 8 inches
This is a cheap, sturdy, ready to use drawknife. The black coating is just protection. I used it for debarking logs on some outdoor craft work and this thing just kicked butt. Ate it all. There are complaints about the coating of the blade being a hindrance to immediate use. The coating on the tool skims right off after some use and reveals a sharp blade ready to go to work without ANY sharpening. Use it and the black coating on the cutting edge wears off very quickly. SAVE THE ORANGE BLADE COVER. The other complaint is that it "skips" on uneven surfaces or doesn't seem to want to take a shaving. Put the handles on right and keep the bevel UP and you won't be jerking around like a ding-a-ling. I say all this having NEVER used a drawknife in my life and only seen it used on video. If you can't figure it out, that's a YOU problem. In terms of quality, it is what it is. Cheap and durable. If you're looking for craftsmanship-of-the-Amish type precision or making royal heirlooms this isn't your tool. If you want to debark logs in the forest to make a hammock tripods and a chair, this has you covered and then some. ... show more

  • Beginner woodworker this is the one!!!!
Size: 8 inches
Sharp, good weight, good size. All these things made it easy for me to control my blade, along with practice Soo I've seen a lot of nicer ones... That being said I've also seen way worse. It works great had absolutely no problems. Came 8n really fast packaged neatly and secure. I can't stop using it I'm having a blast. Now, some of the other comments were correct it cut well but not for long. Other than the speratic sharpening it's a fine tool. I would buy again, for the fact that they use the same street as other higher end brands so I really don't think sharpening is a deal breaker. ... show more

  • Better than I first thought
Size: 8 inches
When I got this I thought it was really dull. I used it for a few minutes and the paint on the cutting edge wore off. It is sharp and cuts well.

  • Works as intended (in spite of paint)
Size: 8 inches
Yes, when you get it you may be puzzled by the fact it's not at all sharp and covered in paint. Turns out, the paint is a good way to protect the edge during shipping. By the 3rd or second draw across a piece of wood the edge will be out and the tool will start to cut in as it is designed to do. Seems to hold the edge rather well so far, but I may come back to this review after the first time I sharpen it to possibly alter this. To be quite honest, it's a low budget tool for a once off or twice off job, if you are looking for an everyday tool there's likely a ton of better ones out there. ... show more

  • Excellent
Size: 10 inches
Some of these people are crazy. I did not expect much from this. I was initially concerned that it was dull and they simply painted over the edge. After a good number of passes, I wore off the pain covering the edge (normal use) as the paint came off the cutting edge it preformed better and better. I have done several black walnut logs 30" wide and between 10' and 16' long. Also a few butternut logs or roughly the same dimensions but maybe a touch smaller. I HAVE NEVER SHARPENED IT ONCE!!!! It holds a good edge. It's not sharp like a precision chisel but it does not need to be!!!?? I also rounded a lot of corners to make some rustic benches, well over 150' if lined up... Again, not sharpened once. I finally dulled the blade today. I used it other than intended to scrape some industrial film off a pipe. That is a job that usually takes 2 people 12hrs. I did it solo in about 8hrs with this thing. It was metal on metal and at a high angle to scrape. I rounded a decent butt on the edge doing so. A quick pass with a good file cleaned it right up..... If I were to do fine wood working I would probably want something better but would expect to pay mid hundred dollars or so. That is not what this is..... If you are debarking a tree, it is amazing right out of the box. I would have been happy paying twice as much..... As to the people who clamed to ruin the edge on some nots, you were either EXTREMELY unlucky or you didn't realize that you did indeed cut though a nail. Now that messed mine up (again MY FAULT) I am about to buy another. That is why I'm leaving a comment now. I will say, I prefer to use it upside down and hold an angle myself, it seems to work better that way. I am also doing rather large logs. It would be nice if it were slightly wider but, if you are doing normal size logs, this will work just fine. It still works fine on the larger logs, just need to be mindful of some nots on the side so you don't bust up your knuckles. Good luck all and definitely a great choice for down and dirty stuff. ... show more

  • Not bad

Well constructed only glitch was no edge but nothing the file and wet couldn’t fix all sharpened up now and it works well hopefully the project I’ve got turns out well.
