  • I gave this 4 stars as it is a very nice product, but not 5 stars as the application ...
Issues with a Ruger GP100 This was delivered on time and as described. I attempted to place it on a Ruger GP100 purchased back in the late 80's, but when seated and tightened down, it would not allow full sear engagement. The expander interfered between the hammer spur and the top of the back-strap by just a millimeter or so. Moving the expander back a bit didn't really work as it was just too unstable and wiggled to much, eventually working loose and marring the hammer spur. I was able to finally get it to wok, but it meant a couple of hours of fabrication. As I did not want to ruin the expander or the hammer spur, I did the following: 1) I used a Dremel(TM) tool to cut a stainless steel round rod in half length-wise, so I had two 3/8" half-cylinder spacers. 2) I also cut another square metal spacer about 1/16" thick out of a square washer. The square spacer was sized to be the same size as the top of the hammer spur. 3) The square spacer is placed on top of the hammer spur,. 4) The two half-cylinder spacers went on either side of the hammer spur when the expander was placed over the hammer spur. 5) This accomplished three things: a) It filled in the spaces between the spur and the expander, making a MUCH tighter fit. b) It forced the expander up by 1/16" and further back toward the shooting hand by about 1/8" allowing it to clear the back-strap and engage the sear. c) It keeps the tightening screw from marring the hammer spur. If you do this for your GP100 (or other guns that may have clearance issues), be sure to test it first for fit, and then use lock-tight on the set screw for the final install (not before). The two photos I've included show the expander in place with the spacers above and to each side of the hammer spur, one photo is with the hammer pulled back and sear engaged, and the other is with the hammer de-cocked. I gave this 4 stars as it is a very nice product, but not 5 stars as the application guide indicated 'Ruger Double Action Revolvers', but it did not fit mine. As a recommendation to Carlson, I think they could provide a small bag of different sized spacers with the expander to make it more versatile and with a tighter fit across all applications. On a side note, I wonder if it's possible to find similar spacers at your local hardware store rather than making your own (I didn't go looking myself). ... show more

  • I am very pleased with my hammer expander
I am very pleased with my hammer expander. For years a struggled with trying to cock or decock my encore because of the limited space between the scope and the hammer but now I am able to cock and decock my encore with ease. I also like the fact that it's ambidextrous. This is a great product!
