Okay, you are doing your research & you are kinda worried about the fact that most of this tool is made of plastic. DON"T. Unless you are mass producing lower receivers I just had a stoke 3 months ago & lost a lot of strength & control of the whole right side of my body. I am still not even 75% of what I was before the stroke. My right hand still shakes when I use it to eat, write or anything else. With this tool, unlike every other tool, you do NOT need a Vise Block & Vise, to keep the lower receiver steady. With this tool, even a old man with weak, shaky hands can install a Pivot Pin, every time on the first try, in minutes(most health people should be able to do it in seconds with this tool). I spent over a hour trying to use the Wheeler tool & lost 2 detents, I never had enough control of my hands enough to use that tool to install the Pivot Pin successfully. The media could not be loaded. Anyone who has ever assembled an AR lower has experienced the frustration of the front detent/spring. This thing looks like it may have been produced by fisher price about 30 years ago, and seeing it in the package, I was very skeptical. But it works. It works really well. I would have preferred two changes to it. First is that it would have been nice to have it made out of metal. Secondly, the paddle used to rotate the tool could have been much smaller as it does not require much pressure to turn, and it would take up less space in my gun tool box (not that it takes up that much space as is). I have tried all sorts of gadgets to aid in install of that pin that has assisted the invention of more swears that any other part of the assembly process, and some work better than others, but this thing is easily the best of them. Most other tools for this require a certain amount of technique to work well. With this thing, if you have any business assembling anything as complex as a lego set, you can use this product successfully. And I found myself taking the pin out multiple times followed by the phrase "On, I gotta see that again", out of sheer disbelief of how easy that formerly dreaded task has now become. Between this, and the trick of threading the rear detent spring hole with a 4-40 plug screw, never chase those detents again. ... show more

In a legit form of hell, people would be forced to install front take down pins onto AR receivers for eternity. I can easily picture a room full of poor, tortured souls losing their ever-loving $hit as millions of tiny detent pins and springs went zooming around and landing in inaccessible nooks and crannies all over Gehenna. I really try to avoid purchasing single use tools. I really really try to avoid single use tools that rarely get used. That said, I bought this Real Avid Pivot Pin Tool knowing full well that I may only use it once or twice more in my lifetime. I now wish that had one of these buggers the first time that I attempted to install a front take down pin. Everyone will be a First Time GO at the pivot pin station with this tool. Honestly, it took me longer to read the simple, 4-step directions (with pics) than it did to install the pin. It's that easy! So, stop being cheap and fork out the $9.99 (or so) and pick up a Real Avid Pivot Pin Tool - or find a buddy with one - and stave off damnation for a bit. ... show more

Life saver, and easy to use. Even a dummy like myself figured it out with no problem. Made installing the pivot pin seamless UPDATE 4/25/20 I’ve been using this for months now....and it has come in handy on at least 1/2 dozen of my own builds, and numerous builds that my buddies have put together. This thing is amazing, and making installation the pivot pin a breeze ******************************* I rely heavily on reviews when I make purchases so I put some time into reviewing everything I buy on Amazon for personal or business use so I can help other people considering that item.     • BUY IT and save yourself some headaches.
A must have tool for any AR15 enthusiast, gunsmith, or person who wants to build their first AR. This tool has saved me from many wasted hours of searching for lost detents and detent springs, a lot of cursing, and frustration. Installing the front detent as well as the gas tube roll pin use to be the two things I hated about building my own AR. With this tool though, now only the gas tube pin is the only thing that gives me trouble. My only regret is that I I’d not come across this tool sooner to buy. ... show more

This thing make life easy, I wish that it were made of steel rather than plastic. Still it beats everything else that I've ever tried to insert the pins in the receiver. I only wish I had it several rifles ago. It's worth every penny especially when there's no need for cursing and chasing springs and pins that flew the coop on me yet again. ... show more

I used to use three hands (a buddy, the neighbor kid, a visiting family member) and a razor blade to keep the pivot detent in place. I still had to hunt for the detent pin a few times after some mishaps. *Safety Squints Engaged* Then I learned the allen key method, but that can scratch or mar your finish. Yesterday, I did three lowers with his Real Avid product, and the pivot pin took seconds. It's hilariously easy to do and does not mar your finish at all. This is an absolute NO BRAINER to buy this. I was laughing my head off thinking about how much time and effort I wasted. It's just two pieces of molded plastic and one metal knobbed pin, but it's pure genius. ... show more
