I bought the same jacket in black 5 years ago and it’s hands down the most warm and durable coat I’ve ever owned. I also get compliments on it still to this day even though it’s visibly frayed and faded from the elements. There is absolutely nothing wrong with my old black jacket and still my go to jacket when it’s cold outside because it’s so warm and comfortable. I just like it so much I wanted another one in a different color so I got the brown one this time. These run big, designed for layering underneath comfortably. Such a stiff fabric but it softens as you wear it and wash it. Thick cotton shell that won’t tear when hopping barbed wire fence or rubbing against sharp rebar. Doesn’t matter if you’re doing construction work, camping, or a professional burglar, this jacket will serve and protect you. It’s like walking around in a sleeping bag with sleeves. I did not need another Carhartt jacket but just in case I lose my old one I have a back up jacket ready for action. Buy it now and you will not be disappointed in this investment. This is the single best coat I own. Not only is it light but it keeps the heat in. When I was shoveling snow, I wore only a T-Shirt under this coat (instead of 4 layers which I usual wore) and I was sweating within minutes. The Quality of the jacket alone is worth the money. It feels well made and will last not only through whatever weather can throw at it but time as well. My wife was so jealous of my coat she went and bought a Carhartt coat for Women. The only advice is that you should try it on in a store before buying online. The size is large around your abdomen. Larger than other coats and fits a bit strangely. I am 6'2(skinny) and would usually buy a medium size jacket. However after trying one on, a large fit my arms and torso better. The hood is large as well but does not fit over your eyes so it is comfortable on windy days as well as snow drifting. The inside and outside pockets are big. 10/10 would tell everyone I know to get this jacket. EDIT 2/24/16 After having this coat for more than a year. And going through two winters, it still looks brand new! The color has not faded. The zipper is intact and working great. With this coat I can stand to go smoke a 1-2 hour cigar in the winter. ... show more

❤️ Update: Red Carhartt Men's Quilted Flannel Lined At the bottom... I love this jacket! I'm a gal and it is just a great jacket! I had one like it before and it was blue and I had it on for 30 years before it was stolen. People can say all kinds of things yet I will tell you that this jacket will keep you warm and comfy and the red makes it a little more feminine. I still think a guy would look good in red one too! It has pockets and a great zipper and you can layer underneath it. I'm so glad I had the red and did so much better than the one for women. It fits as expected. Thank you Amazon.com! Update: February 2021 : Large fits 36 to 38 inch waist. Extremely comfortable and warm! Red is my favorite- please bring back the colors! This one was also stolen and I can’t get it out of the pawnshop. It look like new and was warm as can be. Fit great, looked great- stolen.... Amazon ., please find some decent colors. I don’t want to wear gray or brown. Yet the men’s coat fit so much better than the ladies. I purchased my first Carhartt about four years ago and it is now my coat for doing projects that might get messy. I purchased this new one to use for those tasks not likely to get messy. The new coat is, as expected, stiff but that will change with wear - it is comfortable in Pacific Northwest winters with a thermal t-shirt or sweatshirt underneath. The hood is functional in cold weather and in rain. The fit is perfect for me because I am not adding multiple layers underneath it. If you need multiple layers, it might be better to buy the next size up. I have worn this coat (original one) in mild Spring and Fall weather without overheating. It is a very practical coat and not intended to be a fashion statement, per se. That being said, it can be worn anywhere you want with, maybe, the exception being a night at the opera or other such formal occasions. ... show more

I'd call this a 'heritage coat,' as the quality is so very wonderful, these are often handed down from father to son. This was a dream of my sons for a long time. It was a most wonderful holiday gift. We are having a very cold winter throughout much of the US. It keeps him toasty even on the long walks he's fond of. It would take a lot to sustain any damage to it as the materials used are of the highest quality. It's great for a date, even better for hard work. I will never regret buying this for my dear son.     • Sizes are bigger than expected slow to ship

I'm 6ft 225 and wear XL shirts and assumed an XL coat would be the appropriate size. The coat took almost a week before I got notification that it had shipped. When I got the coat and tried it on it was huge! I felt like a kid wearing daddy's coat. I returned the coat and ordered a large. Again, it took almost a week to leave the seller, and for some reason it also took 6 days longer in transit than expected. The coat is quite warm. I spent a week in Utah and Idaho with sub-zero temps and stayed warm. One of the first things you notice putting on the coat is the big brass zipper. Very strong, but I did notice that when facing into the wind I could feel the cold air coming in through the zipper. Finally the hood gets in the way a lot. The fabric is stiff, and won't lay flat, and when driving with the coat on it feels like you are sitting with a lump on your neck. On the other hand, the hood has the same lining as the coat, and I find that it works very well keeping my head and ears warm ... show more

First off, these are cut large. We originally ordered a XL but it was definitely too big. I'm 5'8" and I am 245 pounds. I am an avid power lifter with broad shoulders a stocky build. The large fits very well. If you are going to layer under the jacket maybe the XL will work for you but the large was perfect. Returning the XL for the Large was simple. No issues at all. The craftsmanship is excellent. Lot's of attention to detail. This jacket will make you sweat if it's over 50 degrees out. I tried it on in my house and in less then 5 minutes I was uncomfortably warm. I use it when riding my motorcycle and it does an amazing job at cutting through the wind. I bought this as an early Christmas present for my fiance and he loves it, he said it's very comfortable and warm. I bought a large for him so he can add a layer under this jacket if he needs to.
