The Carhartt Legacy Women's Hybrid Convertible Backpack Tote Bag is a versatile bag built to function as a backpack or a tote bag. Switch easily between wearing as a backpack and wearing on the shoulder; the clever pull- through strap system allows the backpack to be converted on the fly. Constructed of a rugged fabric with Rain Defender durable water repellent, it has a large zippered main compartment with a padded laptop sleeve and two additional pockets. The Carhartt Legacy Women's Hybrid Convertible Backpack Tote Bag has two exterior side compartments for additional items and a secure zippered pocket for a cell phone or keys. This convertible tote bag features YKK zippers, metal hardware, triple-needle stitching, and the Carhartt logo patch. Measures 17h x 14.5w x 3.5d inches, and weighs 1.5 lbs. I ordered this bag to travel with . It did not disappoint. Holds a bunch and had my yeti water bottle in the side pocket as well . It is true you can wear this 3 different ways , however when in the cross body position it does hand an odd angle - I will still continue to use - traditional heavy Carhart canvas and cute pinstripe interior, with a slide spot inside for a laptop if you like . I get lots of compliments on it, this will last a lifetime it is really durable ... show more

I bought this to replace my purse on trips camping, fishing, even used for a flight (fits under seat in front of you on flight) ! Has large sleeve inside for my tablet. Can carry with handle or as backpack. Comfortable! It holds “A Lot” it’s deep! It has 2 deep pockets on outside that can even fit a water bottle! Also a little small zipper compartment on outside that I put a little cash in! Not heavy! Glad I bought it!!! True Carhartt quality!!! ... show more

    • The best bag, with a couple of minor caveats!

This is *almost* the perfect bag for me, and I’ve tried a lot of bags. I wanted something that could be both a backpack and messenger bag, wasn’t a pain to switch from one to the other, wasn’t too large but still large enough to hold my laptop, iPad, and miscellaneous gear and accessories, waterproof, and has separate water bottle holder. Lo and behold, this bag checks all the boxes! And seems very durable per Carhartt tradition, too. So I’m very, very happy with it. The one area where it could use a little improvement is the strap. Now, I read some of the other reviews complaining about that, but decided to try it anyway because everything else sounded ideal. The deal is, the bag has a single strap, and you pull it in one direction to use as a backpack (so the strap doubles into two straps), and the other to make it a messenger strap. Honestly, it’s ingenious. I like it so much better than other bags where you have to either carry the backpack straps separately and put them on (no way) or tuck whatever you’re not using into a pocket (better, but still a pain). This strap allows you to switch in seconds. BUT the one thing it could use is some way to keep it from going past the center of the strap when switching to backpack mode. It’s too easy for the whole bag to tip sideways before you can get the strap where it needs to be. I’m working on improving my skills here, because I think the ease and speed of conversion is worth a bit of a learning curve. They really are on the right track here, it just could be made just a tiny bit better! Also, I wouldn’t mind a larger front pocket. It’ll fit my wallet and earbuds but not my phone, keys or much else. Nevertheless it’s become my everyday bag, whether going for a day hike or to the coffeehouse to work. Really digging it. I’m never living without this bag again! Love it! So versatile. The only improvement I would make is a stationary strap. Every time you take it off, the back straps slide all to one side completely through the metal rings and almost hits the floor. Could sew the strap to the bag?!

LOVE LOVE LOVE this bag, the inside is super nice, it's baby blue and white striped, there's a deep large pocket as well as 2 smaller pockets inside the bag, on the outside is a small zipper pouch in the front (big enough to put my phone in). It looks super cute in person I'M OBSESSED The bottom of the bag has a nice durable like soft material which is a nice plus It definitely converts into a shoulder bag you just have to loosen the straps and pull them to the top through the metal loops so it "hangs" low and whoa-lah should bag!!! I use this as my diaper bag and I love it. The only thing I dont like is the straps are not secure when you wear it as a book bag so when you take it off one shoulder all the excess strap goes to the other side. Witch is fine when you want to shoulder the bag but they should have added buttons to secure the straps. I'll probably end up sewing buttons or something myself. ... show more

What a strange little bag. I only docked two stars because I have adjusted to its quirks but buyer beware.... it’s a strange little bag. For one it is impossible for me to use it as a tote. The handle straps are very tiny, and you need to adjust the large strap to fit the small handle to make them even. The messenger bag style is awkward, it does not hang neatly to your side like a long strap purse or bag. The backpack design actually works well. You just need to hold both straps while putting it in because they do slid all over. And the fold over and snap is very awkward looking. It does create a more compact bag, but it is not neat or tidy when folded. Maybe it was a design after thought? The inside pockets are useless. I don’t carry around a laptop so that pocket I just use for random stuff. The other two pockets are so shallow that when you put stuff in them it just falls out. The pros: I do appreciate the outer pockets for my water bottle and sunglasses. The little pocket holds my wallet and chapstick but it’s a stretch to try and fit my iPhone 11. A lot does fit in it but it does not stand upright very well due to the strain the full side pockets put on the bags shape. And it is waterproof. ... show more
