The Carhartt Legacy Women's Hybrid Convertible Backpack Tote Bag is a versatile bag built to function as a backpack or a tote bag. Switch easily between wearing as a backpack and wearing on the shoulder; the clever pull- through strap system allows the backpack to be converted on the fly. Constructed of a rugged fabric with Rain Defender durable water repellent, it has a large zippered main compartment with a padded laptop sleeve and two additional pockets. The Carhartt Legacy Women's Hybrid Convertible Backpack Tote Bag has two exterior side compartments for additional items and a secure zippered pocket for a cell phone or keys. This convertible tote bag features YKK zippers, metal hardware, triple-needle stitching, and the Carhartt logo patch. Measures 17h x 14.5w x 3.5d inches, and weighs 1.5 lbs. LOVE LOVE LOVE this bag, the inside is super nice, it's baby blue and white striped, there's a deep large pocket as well as 2 smaller pockets inside the bag, on the outside is a small zipper pouch in the front (big enough to put my phone in). It looks super cute in person I'M OBSESSED The bottom of the bag has a nice durable like soft material which is a nice plus It definitely converts into a shoulder bag you just have to loosen the straps and pull them to the top through the metal loops so it "hangs" low and whoa-lah should bag!!! If you’re looking for your very last backpack purse that’s usable for traveling or work, this is the bag for you!!! I’ve always known Carhartt to have high quality clothing but I never thought they made bags or that I’d be interested until I decided to start planning for my trip to visit my best friend in Mexico. I knew I needed something smaller than what I usually carried (this bag is not small or large; it’s perfect!), something that didn’t attract a lot of attention so I spent a lot of time on Amazon.com and I found it!! I watched every video I could find on it and I fell in love with it!! I fell in so much love with my new backpack purse, I purchased the matching wallet as well as matching Carhartt Legacy Women's Essentials Crossbody Bag. In my backpack purse I have been able to put in the following: passport, 8 oz hand sanitizer, large Costco baby wipes package, cell phone, 18 oz water bottle on the side pockets, 9”x6” zipper bag where I keep my birth certificate and important documents, reading glasses in their case and so much more!!     • really solid bag for what it's for
So, I've been interested in a new bag for the upcoming school year. I was drawn to the color and the versatility, among bag wearing options: could it carry a laptop, journal, and keep m things dry as I commute in and out of the city. This bag did everything I could have asked for, and it looks great while doing it. The shape works well, has drink pockets, two inner pockets and a laptop sleeve to keep things organized. I have space to organize a notebook, some pens, and a book to travel with, featuring the carport logo. I refrain from adding a picture, as I will be adding some patches to the front to remove the feeling of this being a walking billboard. Previous reviews will talk about the size and the straps. I'd like to address that. The bag is great for what it's great for. So long as you don't plan to do much more. I think it works well as a bag companion, a personal item, carry on. I knew I wouldn't be able to stuff much into the bag going in, so my expectations for size are met. Since the bag is convertible, the strap slides up and down, which make the usual cool, one should book bag strap toss maneuver, not work so well. You will have to adjust how you carry the straps and place on your back to not feel awkward and uneven doing so. I have yet to master those moves. The strap (singular, which bothers me a bit) doesn't feel thick enough compared to the bag, but I think it's something that can be adjusted or replaced perhaps, over time. But overall great bag, good quality, this is a piece I'll be keeping in my rotation for school, and light work, to look good and focus on packing lighter. ... show more

This is the best. bag. ever. Shown here after four years of daily use, it is still in mint condition. Every zipper, snap, seam, and strap is in perfect condition. The bottom of the bag isn’t roughed up at all, and the inner lining has little wear and no tears. I’m definitely someone who wears hard on their things, as well, so the fact that I havent managed to lose a grommet, break a zipper, or tear a seam after four years of daily use is kind of remarkable.     • Wanted to love it so bad!!
I was so excited to take this new bag on vacation to the East Coast. I travel light so I liked the convertible option--I could use it as a tote when I had my backpack luggage on, and then as a backpack or a messenger bag as a day pack. WELL...function as a tote bag through the airport was acceptable but it would have been nice to have a zippered pocket in the front big enough to hold my wallet, phone, or at the very least my phone and ID. The front zippered pocket is incredibly small. The side pockets are so tight and inflexible that I could barely squeeze a water bottle in there. Once I hit the streets, I was regretting I didn't just bring a purse. The strap if used as a back pack does not stay in place, as it's on one big loop. So every time you go to grap the strap to take the backpack on or off, it drops to one side and becomes a total liability. Not cool when you want to get to your wallet really quick on busy city streets. After an hour I realized maybe the crossbody option would be better. NOPE. The strap was so wonky that I could never get it positioned comfortable across me without it digging into my shoulder. So, back as a backpack it went where I either had to A. ask my kids or husband to access my phone or wallet for me since I could not reach around to get it without the strap coming out of place and sinking the whole bag to the ground, or B. stretch my arms above my head and away from my body every time I wanted to take the bag on or off. I loved the color (wine). I loved the quality of the materials used. I just wish the maker would have thought the strap issue through because by the end of the week I was ready to chuck the thing in the Hudson River. And sadly I missed the return window so now we're stuck with eachother. ... show more

    • UPDATE: Bag for all trades....
UPDATE: Almost 1 year later.... While I still love this bag, an issue I've been dealing with is that the buckles on the straps no longer stay in place. This means that when I use it in backpack mode, the straps lengthen by themselves regardless of the weight in the bag. It doesn't happen immediately but if I'm using during a long hike, to a theme park or even the zoo, it will eventually slide from my back to my bottom. I've actually had to resort to using a couple of large safety pins in each strap directly beneath the buckle to keep it from sliding. Both my black and wine colored bags look amazing and I get compliments from both men and women everytime I use them... I bought this bag (in Wine) as I thought it was nice looking and have been looking for a backpack as well. I like that I can use it as a backpack a shoulder bag or crossbody bag. I've used this as an overnight bag, a regular handbag and now it's being used as a diaper bag. While the other uses were good, I love using it as a diaper bag. While regular diaperbags are cumbersome, this is perfect. I use it for visits from my grandbaby. We usually take it on visits to the zoo and park. I love that I can carry her necessities and mine as well. The best thing about this bag is that it's extremely lightweight. Most bags are heavy when empty making them even heavier when it gets filled, not so with this bag. I can easily use this as a backpack and hold my grandbaby with no trouble.
