  • Great bundle (no 20th anniversary asthetics)
Style: 2022 Edition
Unlike the base game 20th anniversary, this one has the original arts for the tiles. Games like these tend to make the box outrageously large when it could be much smaller and still hold the contents. Still a great item and glad they made a reprint of this game.

  • Top game
Style: 2022 Edition
Top game, super fun. The box is to big like 3x what you need in space and most of the game is cart board so a little bit expensive, but again is a top game to play.

  • Tons of Possibilities
Style: 2022 Edition
The basic set plus all 11 expansions in a neatly organized box. My wife and I are still having fun mixing up the various expansions - you can play just the basic game, add an expansion, or add multiple expansions at the same time. No matter how you choose to play the board always ends up different than ever before. Love this game(s)!!!!! ... show more

  • Great for groups or for 2
Style: Original
This game is fun for multiple players, and still fun and competitive for just 2! Do yourself a favor, and buy this “Big Box” set with the expansions, instead of the base game and expansions separately. It will save space for you later on, after you find out how much you enjoy it!

  • Nice all-in-one Carcassonne game collection
Style: Original
My mom and I have been playing the base Carcassonne plus 3 expansions for over 10 years now. We were playing with expansions (1) Inns & Cathedrals; (2) Traders & Builders; and (3) Abbey & Mayor. Years ago we replaced our base game with the 10th Anniversary edition, which adds two mini-expansions: The River (12 tiles) and The Festival (10 tiles). The Traders & Builders expansion contained a handy cloth drawstring bag to hold the landscape tiles from the base game and all expansions. We have played the base game and expansions almost every week over the years, and the wear is showing on the tiles. They are still usable for sure, but the edges are fraying and the tiles sometimes stick together when pulling them out of the bag. This new Big Box (2017 version) is a fantastic replacement! The landscape tiles are updated with brighter colors and new artwork. The box itself has a nice built-in plastic insert to organize and separate the expansions. It does include the Inns & Cathedrals and Traders & Builders expansions and The River mini-expansion. For us, it does not include the Abbey & Mayor expansion and The Festival mini-expansion. The original expansions ARE compatible with the 2017 Big Box version, but the artwork and colors are different and therefore not an exact match. (The original game was published by Rio Grande games, while the 2017 version was reprinted and is published by Z-Man games.) I decided to buy the Z-Man version of Abbey & Mayor which matches the Big Box. The Big Box plastic insert obviously does not include a place to put the Abbey & Mayor tiles, but since we always play with the A&M expansion, we have just put those new tiles in the cloth drawstring bag, which does fit in the Big Box. As far as The Festival mini-expansion, we still wanted to use it because the 10 landscape tiles add a new feature that allows the player to optionally remove one of their figures from a tile instead of placing a figure on that turn. The original Festival (10 year anniversary) expansion IS compatible with the Big Box version, but it is the old artwork. There is a new printing of The Festival (15 year anniversary) with the updated artwork. The new version of the Festival is somewhat difficult to find, but I was able to buy one from eBay. :) Big Box (2017) Pros: - one box includes the most popular expansions - updated artwork compared to original Rio Grande version - box includes plastic insert to organize and separate expansions - includes one comprehensive rule book Cons: - does not include Abbey & Mayor expansion - does not include The Festival mini-expansion - does not include cloth drawstring bag (normally included in Traders & Builders expansion) Verdict: Great upgrade for owners of the original base game and expansions, or great starter set for new players! ... show more

  • Great game (albeit with a couple flaws)
Style: Original
Carcassonne is one of my go-to board games. It has a simple set of base rules, and then additional rules (and the components to implement them) can be added incrementally in any combination; this makes it easy to learn and start playing, but keeps it from getting dull or starting to feel too simplistic. The actions on each turn are simple enough that it tends to keep moving even with a number of players (though that may depend on how many expansions you play at once). (Nonetheless, a full game may take longer than indicated on the box; but you can always agree on early ending conditions if you need a shorter game.) Most importantly, it's fun - and everyone I've played with thinks so as well. From a low-vision standpoint, this game is reasonably accessible but could be better. If playing with 5 or 6 players, I have to be sure to pick a color I can distinguish from all the other players' colors, and still may be at some disadvantage for not always knowing whose pieces are whose in play. The Big Box edition is a bit of a catch 22. They market it as a starter set that provides a lot of variety, but you might kind of have to know you like the game before investing $60+. But if you start small by buying the base game and first few expansions (like I did), then later buy the Big Box... well, then you get quite a bit of duplication. On the other hand, it includes expansions that are otherwise not so easy to find, and in any case you'd out-spend the Big Box's price tag well before buying everything it includes individually. It is worth noting that one of the expansions - Traders and Builders I think - comes with a bag for drawing tiles when bought individually; but the Big Box, though it includes that expansion, does not seem to include the bag. You could substitute a large felt bag from a game store (maybe like a large dice bag), or a Crown Royal bag, or just play without a bag (the basic rules just say to make stacks of tiles, and there's The Tower expansion which has another method for dispensing tiles). But personally I like the bag, so this was a bit of a disappointment to me. A few reviewers indicated missing components. My set was complete and in factory shrink wrap. I guess if you buy 3rd party / used, maybe there's more reason for concern, as there are a LOT of components. (In a pinch I suppose you could improvise pretty much anything but the land tiles, and the rules can be found online; but still, you would certainly expect everything to be included as it should.) Anyway, as much as I do enjoy the game I can't quite give it a 5-star due to the low-vision/accessibility issues and the kind of awkward bundling, but it's a solid 4 at any rate. ... show more
