Canon camcorder with amazing zoom
Style: Camcorder Only
This Canon is an excellent video camcorder with many options and excellent zoom. I only briefly used it cuz I need a constant time and date stamp on while recording and playback which apparently no canons have as per their help department. I have to use mine for work and I do need the constant time and date stamp for legal documentation. The seller responded quickly I received it quickly and the whole transition was smooth. ... show more

I really like the Canon Vixia R70
Style: Camcorder Only
I really like the Canon Vixia R70. I own three. It shoots beautiful 1080p video at up to 60fps. If you pair it with a fluid head tripod and some lights you can make nice looking videos. I got a Magnus VT-300 tripod for $65 and it works well. I also got the "Fancierstudio 2400 Watt Professional Lighting Kit" and it really seems like a fantastic value for just $120. It's great! The R70 has threading to accept 43mm lenses and filters and you can get those cheap here on Amazon. A wide angle lens is the most useful and you can get one for like $15. You should get the R70 and not the R72. The only difference is that the R72 has 16GB more memory and it costs like $40 more. Dollars to gigabytes, that's a bad deal. You can get a 128GB name brand, high performance Samsung EVO Plus microSD card for $40. That's what I use. I am also using the cheapo DSTE BP-727 batteries that I found here on Amazon. You can get two with a charger for under $40. ... show more

Great budget cam, but beware of the mic
Style: Camcorder Only
I think this cam was a fair buy for me. The camera is very basic but reliable and cheap. It is well build. You can use it in a tripod while charging. If you are planning to use it for streaming, zoom, facebook live, youtube or podcasting, you will need to buy an external mic (the camera's mic is poor) and other gear like El Gato Cam Link 4k. However, not every mic works with the camera. You will need a TRS mic with its own power source (not the ones you use for your laptop or smartphone) or use a digital recorder able to provide a phantom power source (not all of them do). That really gave me a lot of headaches to figure out. It does not have a hot shoe so you will need to buy something like the Zeadio Action Stabilizing Handheld Estabilizador Handle Grip to provide the hot shoe and be able to attach a boom mic or a wireless lavalier mic, or some lighting. That, in practice, makes your life a little more difficult because you loose part of the easy mobility that a small camera provides you, but you can work around it. It works well with DIY smartphone/tablet teleprompters so I guess it would work well with brand ones too. Also, the ability to flip the screen towards you is a plus over other kind of cameras, so you are not forced to have a monitor in all situations. It would be nice if it had a remote control. I hope this helps you with your set up and also calculate how much money you will need to pay to make it work for streaming, for me it was around $300 in extra equipment. ... show more

love that zoom
Style: Camcorder Only
I bought this item over others because of the zoom and good reviews on ease of use. I can honestly say It is a pleasure to use. The zoom is fantastic. The picture quality is better then any camera I have to date. Over all the video and pictures are fantastic. Easy to download and share. I highly recommend this camcorder to anyone that wants light, easy, good quality and easy to share photos and videos. Here is a photo of a frog in my backyard pond, about thirty feet from my back window. ... show more

Very disappointed. Unsupported product.
Style: Camcorder Only
I bought this camera a short while ago and have struggled with certain aspects of it since I bought it. I would not suggest this camera if your intention is to take videos and transfer them to your computer, regardless of your level of computer savvy. The USB connectivity appears to be broken. On an up-to-date Windows 7 computer, I could never get the device to connect. There are no specific drivers to download and install, there is just the Camera Window program that you have to download from the Canon web site. It is supposed to be used if you want to access the camera via USB except that the program won't start up if it doesn't detect the camera and there are no separate camera drivers to uninstall or reinstall. If you don't need to upload videos to your computer and you're content to view the videos on the tiny screen on the camera be aware that the onscreen video controls have a very fast timeout so you don't have much time to touch the tiny buttons to fast forward or rewind. I took too long trying to figure out the solution to the software problems and now I can no longer return it for a refund due to Amazon's 30 day return policy. PROS: * Small * Lightweight * Simple to use start/stop/zoom controls CONS: * Tiny onscreen controls. * On screen display turns off far too quickly to be able to actually use it. * Camera turns itself off after a very short period of inactivity, even if it's plugged into AC and even if you're using it to preview videos. * Device driver problems make it so there is no way to directly access the camera from the computer. You'll need to take the SD card out of the camera and put it in your computer in order to preview. * Too few physical buttons on the device. Zoom and record are it. * Very expensive for what you get * Drivers to enable remote control from Android no longer work and there is no support for updating them. SUMMARY: Save your money and buy a different camera. ... show more

Camera is nice.
Style: Camcorder Only
Opted for this camera because it supports AVCHD file format and the new one only supports MP4. Unfortunately, the camera did not arrive with the accessories advertised. No power supply and no HDMI cable. Sent a message to the seller and no reply. Considering whether to return it or jost go buy the missing items. ... show more

Incredible Camera
Style: Camcorder Only
I love this camera. I am an investigator and I use this all the time for my work. It is an amazing camera for the price. The zoom is great while maintaining quality of the video/image. But there is no live streaming on this device. It’s false advertising. That app doesn’t work with this model.

Canon doesn't seem to care about simple but important problems!
Style: Camcorder Only
I bought this off of eBay, but had several major problems with it. First and foremost - it doesn't work under Windows 7! I called Canon customer support, and they told me that the company that made the driver went bankrupt, and the last supported version of Windows was Vista. How can Canon continue to sell a camcorder that isn't supported on Windows 7? Why don't they write a new driver themselves? 2nd - had trouble opening and closing the shutter. Updated 10/9/2017 - After reading an excellent Amazon review that talked about the Windows 7 problem - the camcorder DOES work under Windows 7, but there's a glitch - Windows 7 gives an error message saying that the device driver doesn't install correctly, and you have to hit the "play" button to copy the videos to a Windows 7 PC. 2nd - while the screen gives you an error message about the shutter being closed, it doesn't say "there's a button on the right side to open & close it". 3rd - there are 2 native video formats for recording - MP4 & AVCHD. Of course, MP4 is the best known, but compresses the video more than the AVCHD format does. While AVCHD is less compressed, and has a better resolution than MP4, most PC video players don't support it - you have to convert it to MP4 first. While none of these issues are deal-breakers by themselves, it concerns me that it took me reading several Amazon reviews and multiple calls to technical support to understand the issues! All of these issues could've been solved easily if they were more careful about their documentation and included a card in the box that said "Read me first!", like many vendors do these days. While I like this camcorder, I'm still planning to return it to Amazon because I can get a much better price on eBay. ... show more
