I purchased this camera for my Digital Photography semester this year. I knew literally nothing about cameras except for the auto selections on my smart phone. This camera has been a pretty decent tool to learn with. Before I get in to the things I like about it, I want to talk about the not so great bits about the camera and kit it comes with, as I know the "bad things" are what people are worried about and don't want to hunt for. I want it to be known that I have been using this camera VERY often for 3 months now, so this is just my personal experience as an armature photographer. The tripod that comes with this particular set is stick thin. I do NOT trust putting my camera on the tripod AT ALL. You will absolutely want to get a different tripod as this one wobbles and the platform you attach the camera to has limited mobility and doesn't feel secure. Although the additional lenses were a nice add on, one of my lenses (the wide view) came damaged. I don't want to necessarily blame Amazon, but the quality might have been lacking enough to cause this to fall apart before even being used. The strap on the carrying bag isn't the most comfortable. It does have a piece that you can reposition to keep it from rubbing against you, but it's almost useless. Last thing that concerns me slightly is that the camera body is plastic. Let's talk about the great things: First- this camera is relatively light weight, considering it is a DSLR camera. Even though the camera body is plastic and I personally worry about damaging it, it is actually pretty tough. The add-ons like the cleaning kit, the SD card, the lens cap, and filters have all been incredibly handy. Make a note that the lens cap does not come with an attachment to hold it to the camera, so you'll either need to purchase that separately or have a place to store the lens cap when taking photos. As far as picture quality goes, this is exactly what I would expect out of a lower end DSLR. A lot of the imperfections can be easily adjusted it Adobe Lightroom, so it isn't much of an issue. When it comes to the display screen, this can be a little deceiving, though. Often, it makes the picture look far worse than it actually is. The only thing that is consistently accurate when reviewing photos on the display screen is the exposure. The manual functions are a bit strange getting used to, but once you learn where everything is it becomes second nature to use. The auto functions do well in adjusting the picture appropriately, though I don't use these for class. I have not yet had the opportunity to use the video function so I cannot give any feedback on this. Altogether, I think this camera is great for people that just want to mess around with a DSLR camera or who are learning the ropes to photography. Is the entire bundle necessary? Probably not. If you can find a camera and JUST the 18-55mm lens, you're better off (since the cameras come with chargers and SD cards are pretty cheap). Especially since the tripod is basically useless and you'll need to purchase one separately anyway. ... show more

Camera is lightweight and fits all of the lenses for my Canon 3Ti. Bought this for my 12 year old. the additional lenses are junk though... they literally fell apart. Over all, not a bad deal for a beginner to learn on.
