    • Get help to assemble!

First... Good news. Dipping the screw tips, (1/4 inch), in dish washing liquid prevents the wood from splitting. Now the bad.. If you have the same level of patience that I have... (Picture Donald Duck making Mother Mallards waffles... Yep!) Get help, (psychological as well!), putting this bookcase together. I finally struck on the idea of using a bungee cord and a piece of cord to hold this together as you go. Believe me, you'll need... or wish you had help. You get one piece together and the other pops apart. I struggled with this thing all afternoon well into evening. If it wasn't for the bungee cord and rope, the thing would still be in pieces! FINALLY! Together! It really is a solid, great looking bookcase. I live by myself and don't plan on using it to climb on, so I didn't attach it to the wall. It seems to be very stable... and did I mention... The thing looks great and does the job extremely well. So... If you purchase this bookcase, get help to assemble it. Believe me, you'll wish you had. Or make sure you have long, stout bungee cords or rope to hold it together as you work. The complained about odor is definitely present, but I didn't find it too overwhelming. After the trouble I had with assembly, I could've slept through a septic tank explosion. The reason for 4 stars... I couldn't bring myself to grade it on assembly only. If I had, it would've gotten a negative 2000, but once together, it just looks great and is just what I wanted. ... show more

Take your time assembling this and you end up with a beautiful hardwood bookcase. Price is very reasonable for a 100% hardwood bookcase. The cherry finish is gorgeous. I've bought three of these over the past two years, so I'm a happy repeat customer. I just hope this company stays in business. Assembly is straightforward if you're somewhat handy and take the time to line everything up while fastening, etc. The only downside for me: a single dowel was missing and it took 13 days to receive one from the company. I'd suggest they include two extra dowels and two extra screws in the box to avoid this. I HIGHLY recommend this bookcase! ... show more

This was the 3rd bookcase I ordered to match 2 that I purchased a year ago. The quality is much worse than the previous purchases. First issue: the veneer on the top of the bookcase has a large patch in it that stands out. I can cover that up and live with it. 2nd issue: They missed predrilling 4 holes for the dowels used to assemble. 2 were missed in the top shelf on one side and 2 were missed on the bottom shelf. I drilled these in order to assemble, not too difficult as I have the tools, but still a pain as this should have been done at the factory. Last issue and worst one, the predrilled holes in the uprights for the shelves to rest on do not line up from one side to the other. The right side holes start at 3 1/4" above the bottom shelf and the left side holes start at 4 1/4" above the bottom shelf. Hole spacing is about 1 1/4" so the shelves will sit out of level no matter what unless I redrill these too. I purchased this on Prime Day for the discount but did not assemble right away as I was neck deep in another project and this was low priority. Unfortunately, I missed the 30 day window to return, so I'm stuck with a piece of garbage.... ... show more
