One man can assemble it with reasonable effort. It took me 2 hours to complete the task (not counting unboxing). Item came very well packaged; in spite of a serious gouge in the box, the contents were fine. Here's my little gripe: There are about a dozen wooden dowels that will need to be inserted, aligned with another piece, then that portion screwed together. Unfortunately, I had two separate instances of dowel holes drilled out of alignment. While I managed to heavily 'round-out' the dowel holes with my handheld drill, it was a pain in the butt, and I unintentionally shoved the drill bit clean through the finished side of the wood on one of the 'adjustments'. Fortunately, that won't be visible where we will use the bookshelf. We like the finish and look of the item. It's all solid wood, except the back, which is two-piece very thin board of some kind. A plastic 'H' seam runs vertically between the the two backing sections. Grudgingly, I will admit, for the price at time of purchase, I would buy another, if I needed it. Take good care of that packaging until you successfully get things assembled. At best, It would be a painful experience putting it all back in the shipping box:) ... show more

Like color and quality of finish. I have put together many pieces of furniture over 45 years and this was my worst experience. The fit was terrible. Dowel holes not matching. The back board was warped badly. Very difficult to work with. I would not purchase again. This is in my opinion a 99.00 bookshelf, not over 200.00. ... show more

    • Building it is not for the novice. I needed my brother, a carpenter by trade to put it together.

The bookcase was a “hit” with my nine year old grandson. He filled it with his many books and knick knacks right away. It fit perfectly in his bedroom and matches his furniture nicely. It's a substantial piece of furniture that he'll have for a long time to come.

Well made, heavy, but very difficult to assemble. The 2 of us struggled and could have used another pair of hands, but finally got it together, but took much longer and with a lot more effort then we realized.

It is not easy to put together for several reasons: 1) I have to make the holes for most of the screws to go in which forced me to get a drill. 2) Over half the nails did not fit through their designated holes, making it harder for the pieces to stay attach. 3) The balance of the shelf, when completed, is off-centered. Cheap quality materials - I can deal with that, based on cost. But not having the proper holes drilled to put it together? I was so pissed I threw the whole thing away. Non pre-assembled products are always a risk especially buying online but this was BS.
