No one in our family plays the drums but wanted to give the kids an opportunity to learn, so we chose this as a beginner set for them. We thought the option of “quiet” would be a great feature. We did not realize that not being quiet wasn’t an option without a drum amp. Being inexperienced, we thought the options for an electric drum set would be silent with the headphones or normal expected drum sounds without them. There is a lot to learn with this drum set. While seasoned drummers may not choose this set, it may be a bit much for some young beginners but could possibly be the perfect fit for intermediate level learners.

I've been wanting to get into drumming for a while now, but living in a small house, a full acoustic kit was just never going to happen. So, I started looking into electronic drum sets, and this CAHAYA kit caught my eye. At its price point, it seemed like a solid option to get started without making my neighbors hate me. Getting it set up was mostly straightforward, though I'd definitely recommend opening all the boxes first – some of the stand pieces were hiding in other boxes, which made for a bit of a scavenger hunt! Once everything was laid out, assembly wasn't too bad, pretty similar to other electronic kits I've seen. The instructions were okay, but a little patience helps. I did notice some of the adjustment screws have plastic knobs you can easily loosen, but others need the little T-key they include, which is a minor thing but worth noting. Once it was all together, the kit felt pretty sturdy. The stand is metal and feels solid, and the drum stool they include is decent too, easily holding my weight. Now, onto playing! This is where it really shines for small house living. The mesh drum heads are fantastic – they're super quiet, but still feel really responsive, almost like a real drum. And with the included headphones, I can practice anytime, even late at night, without bothering anyone. That's a huge win. Just a heads-up though, if you want to hear it without headphones, you'll need to plug it into a separate drum amp – it's not going to make sound on its own. That's something I didn't fully realize as a beginner, but it makes sense for a "silent practice" kit. The sound quality through the headphones is great. It's not pro-level studio quality, but for playing in your room or garage, it sounds perfectly fine. There are a ton of different sounds and drum kits built in – 350 sounds and 25 kits! I haven't even scratched the surface of all the adjustments you can make, but it gives you a lot of room to experiment. The dual-zone mesh snare is cool, letting you get different sounds from the head and the rim, and the crash cymbals are dual-zone too with choke functionality, which is pretty neat for adding expression. They're also enlarged and made of thick silicone, so they feel pretty good to hit. These are all great features that add to the functionality of the set. The kick pedal has a nice weight to it, made with enough metal that it doesn't slide around even on smooth floors when I'm really getting into it. That was a pleasant surprise, as I expected it to be cheap plastic. For a beginner like me, or even my kid who's also trying it out, this kit is awesome. It's compact enough that it doesn't take up too much space, and while I haven't tried folding it down, it's easy enough to take apart if I needed to store it. Just be sure to label your cables if you plan on disassembling it regularly, as the paper tags won't last forever. Overall, I'm really happy with this drum kit, especially for the price. It gives you everything you need to start, allows for quiet practice, and has a surprising amount of sounds and features for a beginner set. It feels like a really good value.

Setup wasn't too bad - just make sure to open all the boxes before starting as some of pieces for the stand are in other boxes hiding underneath the drums ;). Adjustment screws are weird - some of them have plastic knobs you can loosen to adjust but others you need to use the included T-key to unscrew the bolt to adjust them. Sound is great - you can use the included headphones, use your own, or plug it into an amp to play it out loud. It's nowhere near performance-level quality, but if you're just playing in your room/garage it sounds perfectly fine. Durability seems fine so far - after a week of abuse it looks almost brand new (only marks are little scuffs of dust on the rubber cymbals). Weight isn't too bad - easy to pick up and move with 1 person. Not sure how well you can fold it down for storage, but it's pretty easy to take apart and put back together. If you do plan on doing that, I'd recommend putting some more durable tags on the cables so you know which one plugs in where (the came with tags to set it up, but they're just paper so they'll fall off eventually). Kick pedals have a nice weight to them, expected them to be cheap plastic but they have enough metal to not move when you're playing - even on smooth floors. Stool is fine - also nothing special but still made of metal and solid - easily supports the weight of an adult. Haven't played with all the different settings, but there's a lot of adjustments you can make to the sound with the digital control. Also has a small stand on top of it that's big enough for a phone/small tablet, but not a music boot. Overall I'm very happy with the drum kit for the price point it's at.

I got this drum set for my kid, and it's been pretty great so far. He loves the quiet mesh pads – perfect for our apartment. It works as advertised, with tons of sounds and kits, but the headphones could be better quality. Overall, a solid starter kit for the price.
