  • Great bang for my buck!

  • Best performer in the $40 range. Better than the Piscifun Torrent in head to head comparison.
Style: Cb6 Right 6.6:1
In a search for the best baitcasting reel for around $40 I purchased a Piscifun Torrent and a Cadence CB6. No one gave me a reel (or a discount) or influenced my opinion in any way and I am being completely honest. I do not have a YouTube channel or need sponsors! I am just a guy who likes fishing. In my opinion, right out of the box the Cadence seemed to have better build quality and feel. It felt very smooth, functioned perfectly and spooled the line perfectly. I did not have to send it back because of defects. The first Piscifun Torrent I received had a rubbing sound around the shaft when cranking and the knobs on the handle felt rough when spinning. I returned it for another. The second torrent had a misaligned spool and all the line built up on one side of the spool in a lopsided wedge. Also a gap between the spool and body kept catching the line while spooling. Ok, that one was also returned as defective. Third time is the charm. The third one felt very smooth. It spun and functioned correctly and the line was only slightly lopsided when spooling but was acceptable. For comparison both reels were loaded with 15 lb test Spiderwire braid. I mounted them on identical 6'6" Daiwa rods, tied on identical swivels, and set up both reels to cast the same 1/8 oz. Beetle Spin grub and headed out to the dock. I set both reels to optimize casting the Beetle Spin without backlashing both under condition of "no thumb" and also with normal use, using the thumb a bit to stop rotation as the bait hits the water. Both reels have clicks to adjust the drags and adjusted easily, however the Min and Max arrows on the Cadence magnetic drag were a bit difficult to see vs. the Torrent's numbers. However the real differences became apparent in casting them side by side with the same line and same lure. The cadence was lighter, smaller, and in every situation it outcast the Piscifun torrent when they were optimized to the same line and bait, especially under normal use when using the thumb when the bait hits the water. In my hands the difference was typically about 8-10 feet. Also the Torrent tended to bird's nest more often than the Cadence, during testing, about 3:1. Once set up, the Cadence did not really birds nest easily. Now do not misunderstand, I feel the the Piscifun Torrent is an amazing value at roughly $5 more than a Zebco 33 platinum at Walmart, and a really good functioning baitcasting reel, but for about $5 difference I felt the Cadence CB6 was noticeably the better reel when tested head-to-head. I will be keeping both and I feel both are excellent choices for a high performing baitcaster in the $40 range. ... show more

Takes some practice to use bait casting reels, but worth it when you get them figured out

  • Amazing Price Plus Amazing Quality Reel Equals Amazing Value!
Style: Cb5r Red Right 6.6:1
Well, I found this reel on Amazon for $36.99 and it had a coupon for 20% ($9.25) off making it an amazing $27.74! How can you go wrong for that price. Cadence Fishing is a relatively new company. I have several of their spinning reels and rods and they are mid to low price and all of exceptional quality. I also recently picked up their CB6 ($69.99) baitcasting reel and was really impressed (see previous review on Amazon). I ordered this reel on Thurs and received it via Prime on Sat. The reel looks great in the Red Color (See photos). It is a very lightweight reel with an aluminum crankshaft so it comes in at 7.5 ounces and feels greet in the hand. It is a 6.6:1 retrieve so it will take up line quickly. I spooled it up 15lb Seaguar Red Fluorocarbon line and put it on a Bass Pro Shops Johnny Morris 7ft casting rod; put on a EWG 4/0 hook and a Super Zoom Fluke weightless. I took it out to my neighborhood pond about 6:40 pm and on my first cast back-lashed big time! I looked at the reel and immediately realized I had not adjusted the wind drag on the left hand side and it was set all the way loose. My bad. After setting that back to about 80%, I cast again and “Oh My!”. Even with a light weight bait this thing casts a mile! I think this is due to them using premium Japanese ball bearings and something called SLT(Super Low Torque). Whatever it is this reel cast farther than my Shimano Curado DC 150 that costs $250. So on my third cast I hook and land a nice 2lb 6oz LMB (see picture). I had the drag set relatively loose as I wanted to see how smooth it was. It has 20 pounds of drag (using a carbon fiber drag system) so should be able to handle any LMB. He pulled nicely and the drag gave in smooth spurts. I tightened it up and reeled her in no problem. I continued to fish and caught several more in the same size range. The one minus I would put on the reel (and it is not really and issue), it that you need to really crank down (more so than you would think) on the spool tension adjustment knob to get it adjust correctly. However, once you have it set, it casts with no back-lashes. The one think I really like is the price performance ratio of this reel. While it is not “better” than my Curado or some of my other high priced reels, it is in their class and for the price, it is a much better deal! If you are thinking about getting one, just buy it! ... show more
