Buyer beware. I'll freely admit I should have done more homework, but when I hear wood "laminate" I tend to think of, well, laminated wood. This is pressboard. It's not the worst pressboard I've ever seen, but pressboard nonetheless. And the fit and finish is decidedly marginal. I'll keep it since it would be way too much of a hassle to return it. But had I known this is what it was I wouldn't have bought it. Certainly the description should have been much clearer about what this was. Each unit arrived with quality control issues. Bush customer service is excellent and replacement parts were dispatched immediately. The only assembly issues I experienced were with the legs. Each leg is mounted with four screws from the bottom and a very long screw from the top. The top screws supplied for the front legs do not grip, they just slide into the holes, so I didn't use them. Arrived quickly, well packaged, no damage, hubby put it right together. I bought the Somerset L shaped desk last year with the hutch and finally decided to get the matching book shelf. The desk has the same sturdy good quality as the bookcase, and the faux wood grain is perfect for me. So glad they were still carrying this one. This is the 2nd of these I have purchased. The first one I purchased through a "Office Supply" store and the cost was well over $400, PLUS shipping, and the first one showed up damaged and had to be rejected. Fast forward to this one, and I was actually expecting a knock-off due to the price. To my surprise, it was the same Bush bookcase and of high quality. Plus the shipping was 2-day free with Prime and it can UP$ not freight carrier.... I'm sure the UP$ guy wasn't real happy about it, but I was! ... show more

All in all the bookcase is okay. It looks nice and assembly was easy enough. But, I was disappointed that the bookcase was not real wood. Rather, it is made of composite. If the product description had been more explicit I might not have bought it.
