  • You get what you pay for
Color: Espresso Oak
My daughter bought this desk because it met her needs and wasn't hideous looking. It took about three hours to assemble both the desk and the overhead hutch, two pieces of which were put in backwards requiring undoing and redoing. What was the result was what appeared to be a nice-enough ensemble but really was thin particle board covered in thin wood-like stickers. Assembly wasn't altogether impossible, but there were virtually no words to describe how to assemble...just pictures. The pictures were MOSTLY clear enough to follow, but they lacked a few pieces of key instructions: 1) be SURE to screw all the lock screws DEAD STRAIGHT or the pieces will not assemble easily. 2) be SURE to watch the angle of your nails as you attach the cardboard back. If a nail goes off center (which is easy considering how thin the particle board sides are), it WILL punch through, tearing the faux wood sticker and breaking the board. 3) PAY ATTENTION to the direction of the "finished edge" of the wood. They should follow each other. Sadly, because this kit does not show front and back of material during assembly, this can result in redoing assembly. 4) Do a complete inventory of product PRIOR to assembling. We discovered the L-shaped brackets for attaching the hutch to the lower desk units were not included. Fortunately, the desk was going against a back wall in a stable area. We can probably function just fine without attaching it. 5) There is a notice on the box insisting there is a 200 pound weight limit. Nope. I'd hold off from putting any weight exceeding 50 pounds. This is particle board assembled with blunt edge seams and screws. It is not designed to be moved after assembly without significant risk to the unit. Buy it once and consider it a throw-away if you need to move. With that knowledge, though, it actually does look decent from a distance. And when we put one piece in backwards that would have required tearing EVERYTHING apart to redo it, we opted, instead, to get a black permanent marker and just color the wood. Nobody notices it. ... show more

  • Disappointing cheap inferior product from a company like Bush.
Color: Natural Maple
To list all the things we didn't like would take too much space. Just let me say there is a difference between cheap and inexpensive. Cheap being frustrating, low quality, inferior, and design issues. Inexpensive is good quality at a reduced price; perhaps clearing out an older inventory that has run its course. The latter is what we though when we saw this BUSH desk; Bush in the past having a good reputation. Some of the issues: where the desk joins the filing cabinet there is not a tight fit. The laminate is more like shelving contact paper, and along a couple of edges was already peeling back. Where the desk and filing cabinet meet is a weak joint in spite of their metal joiner plate. The drawer does not fit square in the cabinet. The hutch tension bar (to hold open the door) snaps onto a part and is held in place by a little cheap plastic snap...that broke on installation and now it won't hold open the door (the tension bar falls off the connector). The angle is wrong on the left side and if the desk was even 6" wider it would make a difference; you are 'scooting' your chair into the cabinet; it has a tight/off angle feel to it. Too many 'pegs' to assemble the unit --- this is not how quality furniture is built. If you just want a cheap desk to get by for a while, or for a kids room, or a temporary fixture this would be o.k. knowing when you go it it's junk and won't last. Oh, and check the height of the desk working surface; this is taller than many desks I have used over the years and uncomfortable; my chair doesn't go high enough for it, and there is no keyboard tray; it just has an awkward feel to it. I should have paid more attention to the dimensions. Bush; I hope you drop this terrible product. I will say the instructions were excellent and easy to follow, and all the parts were included. I would be o.k. with this product had I known I was buying a cheap desk --- I thought I was buying an inexpensive one from an otherwise reputable company. Very disappointing. ... show more

  • Absolutely Love It!
Color: Heather Gray
Absolutely love it and I was skeptical! It took me a while to put it together, plan on a few hours (3-4). I work from home and needed something that would allow me to have a dual montitor set up, storage for files, a 10-key, and general room overall. I have a limited amount of space for my desk as it's in the guest room and this fit perfectly. I read a number of reviews saying product came damaged or couldn't hold its own weight (Hutch). I guess they fixed that issue. Was very well wrapped. I didn't have any noticeable scratches worth mentioning. The hutch went up perfectly, though if possible I do recommend a second set of hands when putting it on the desk. I opted not to put in the random tiny shelf they designated for "gadgets" it was a waste of space when I starting putting it together. Leaving it out, I can use the space above drawer for binders and what not. Desk looks and feels great. I recommend it! ... show more

  • I love this thing
Color: Espresso Oak
This desk is exactly what I needed. It holds a lot of stuff. Depending on the size of your computer the desk can get crowded pretty quick. But all and all... I love it. It did take me about 90 minutes and 4 beers to put together. Just a lot of steps. I did have to google a video on how to install the glass door. Well worth it. I have a 27" and 24" monitors on it. The 27" might be the max that can fit under the hutch. One thing to keep in mind if doing duel monitors or having one against the backboard is the distance from the back of the stand to the front of the monitor. I am really glad I thought of that before I bought my second monitor. Also, LED lights make everything look cooler. ... show more
