I'm a fan of Burt's Bees products but this one left me feeling like it could have done better. The balm is easy to apply and a little goes a long ways. I feel like it got my face pretty clean. The problem came with what felt like a waxy residue left on my skin. When I use this, I feel like I need to wipe my face thoroughly with a dry towel or washcloth to get this layer off my skin. ... show more

I am so bummed. I was REALLY excited about this Burt's Bees wax as I generally love their products and frankly likely would love this one too except that it arrived a mess. The box was wet and discolored on arrival, the tin inside the box was greasy and clearly had leaked much of the contents. Upon opening about half of the contents of the product were missing. It is hard to blame the product on this, but unfortunately shipping the product and storing it in significant heat clearly doesn't work. Outdoor temperatures on the date of arrival were around 95 degrees. Even if the product is good, if it doesn't arrive in good condition it can't be considered great. Further, I doubt this is a one off but instead will be a common problem with this product anytime temperatures exceed a specific level. This product does not have a significant smell to it, and I was able to apply it to my face as intended without issue. The size of the tin is generous and had much of the product not leaked out, the quantity of product would be generous. After application there is a very slight greasy feeling that went away pretty quickly. When I look in the mirror after application, I can't tell any changes in coloration etc of my skin. After a few hours using the Burts on one side of my face and nothing on the other I could clearly feel the Burt's side felt moist and the other side felt dry. The product is great just like all Burt's products I have used, but the packaging is terrible. Frankly, I like the product, but I cannot recommend if temperatures as such the product may melt en route to you! When it begins to cool down a bit, this Burt's product would likely be great. This is an OK cleansing balm. A small amount is all you need. Does a good jog removing makeup but felt like I needed to use a regular cleanser after. Not crazy about the dented tin.

I was looking forward to this because I like the brand but this product to me was just eh. I feel like it left a bit of residue on my face and I don't think it really cleaned my face well.

I dont feel like it gets all my makeup off. I still use a makeup wipe after a full face day, but for light makeup, it seems to work great and leaves my skin nice and soft.

    • melts away makeup
I wear minimal makeup (no contouring here!), but do wear eyeliner and mascara nearly every day. Cleaning my face with this cleansing balm made my eye makeup melt away (tarte tubing mascara and loreal waterproof eyeliner). The balm is thick and, at first, I did feel the need to wash my face with my regular face wash (Cera Ve), but I am getting used to the balm and not feeling that need anymore. I did find that the balm did not fully remove waterproof mascara, I needed to use eye makeup remover first. I did get the balm in my eyes, and it feels horrible - definitely avoid that mistake! The container will leak if the temps are too high and the balm melts - avoid traveling with it unless you find another container. I have oilier skin, but did not find that this balm made my skin oilier - my skin does feel nicely hydrated and I can follow with a lighter moisturizer. Pretty refreshing. Though it doesn't come off easily. You'll need a wash cloth to wipe it off with. Sorta leave a waxy residue that makes you feel like it's still on your face. Though you can't see it when you look in the mirror. The directions says to follow with their face wash, so maybe buy that at the same time as this. ... show more
