  • Pro Bass don't know why they would degrade this beautiful Bass by saying it's for beginners
Size: 5
Awesome Bass. BUT it well need work. If you know your way around a Bass get it. For me this was a gem. Shipped quickly. Packaged horrible. Don't know how it made the trip unharmed. The frets were sharp. Neck needed tightening to the body. Infact every screw needed inspection. All the pots for the electronics were loose, so once you turn the nob all the way in a direction it would start turning the pot. Most likely why others had problems with sound. Tore off wires. Minor truss adjustment. Pickup hight ,bridge adjustment. So like any new instrument it need setup. After that this blew me away. Can't believe I payed a little over $200 to my door for this. It's beautiful. Very high quality parts and overall stunning. It's strange that it's such a nice peace but the finish assembly and quality control is crap. And wording on the box is out there. Then marketing it as a beginner Bass? What's with that? I've been playing over 30 years. And had many basses in my hand. And this is as good as any. So many nice things about it. It plays fantastic. And sounds incredible. Very versatile with tone. Active electronics are by far the hottest signal I've ever seen. It's seriously 3 time louder then the electronics in my Heartfield! Seriously incredible. Plays, sounds, and looks incredible. This is a $1000+ Bass in my opinion. I'm wanting to get the 4 string now also. Might get the other neck threw model (for beginners) ha. Why do they sell themselves short?? For all you guys on Bass talk blog. This thing is sweet. The talk about getting one to do modes is nuts, it's good to go as is. Also the strap is really quite comfortable. Mines on it. I like it. The gig bag is decent also. One of the cords are kinda OK the other is crap and tuner is useless. The Bass is awesome and it makes it even (moreawesomer) that I got it for $200. Try it you'll like it. No you'll be blow away. ... show more

  • Great bass, POOR packing
Size: 5
I got this on a whim, just to have an extra bass around only to be pleasantly surprised. Pros- Feels good, sounds good, looks wonderful. Fit and finish are on par with most Chinese made instruments. Straight neck, truss rod works fine. Sound is better than I thought it would be. Cons- You're going to have to do a setup and maybe change the strings. Fretts are ruff and will need filing on the edges in some cases. All understandable for an inexpressive instrument. They usually cut corners somewhere to save money. Biggest problem as others have stated here and on YouTube is that the packing is terrible. I'm really surprised it survived the trip here. I was lucky, others were not. It's a big gamble if you buy one, so make sure there is a return policy in lost or damaged. Overall I really like it and I will keep it around for years to come. ... show more

  • Not a beginners bass, but....
Size: 5
I've been playing bass for almost 50 years, I have owned many expensive basses as well as cheap basses. This Bullfighter bass certainly ranks up there as far as "great"basses go, This is my second bullfighter bass, I purchased the 4 string bass and was pretty impressed, as were my sound guy and fellow band members. The 5 string DB-5 did not disappoint and I was very impressed with the overall build and sound quality of this bass, Mine came packed rather well, in a cheap gig bag but survived the trip from China. It actually was set up from the factory with low action and NO buzz. Frets were all filed and the neck was smooth. Now the big difference between my 4 and 5 string is the preamp. The 4 string is rather noisy {hissy} but the 5 was nice and quiet. The MM pickups provide that classic MM sound and the 3 band EQ gives you plenty of tonal range. I did swap the strings out but thats because I prefer Elixir strings. Nothing wrong with the factory strings but I'm a fan of Elixir strings. Overall, this bass is a bargain at the price and it is just as good as my Sterling Stingray 5. I recommend it for any bassist, beginner or pro ... show more

  • Good looking, but…
Looks good but didn’t feel like I could trust it to last. I bought 2 of these on the recommendation of a non-Amazon reviewer, because they got one that was ok and one that failed out of the box. I guess it must be a trend. On the first one the volume controls stopped working within 24 hours. While this one played ok, I couldn’t get over the feeling that the first one gave me. ... show more

  • Just buy it!
Great bass for the price! I would agree with other reviews that this is beyond a beginner’s bass. Yes the frets are sharp and tuners need to be tightened but if your like me and have your favorite strings you plan to swap in.. while the strings are off do a little filing on the frets and then use done fine steel wool to polish up the frets. You will see I used painters tape to mask off the fret board but later I ended up smoothing out the fret board also with steel wool. It had a bit of a rough feel on the wood, but the steel wool smoothed it out well.. I then applied a little mineral oil.. feels nice and smooth. I was able to lower the action nice and low without and fret buzz and without any need for truss rod adjustment. Some other reviews mentioned that the pickups sounded good.. I have to agree! On less expensive basses I have gotten in the past (for example a Harley Benton) I wasn’t happy with the tone and put in Nordstrand pickups.. which by the way are sweet. But for now I think I’m happy with the stock pickups. BTW, my comment regarding my Harley Benton bass is not meant to be negative.. that bass was only $180 (about $60 less than this Bullfighter) and well with the money… HB’s are definitely worth considering when on a budget. Anyway, I am really enjoying the Bullfighter bass.. with a few tweaks, which I enjoy doing anyway.. you have a great bass. It is certainly worth the $240. The build quality is good, light weight but not to light. ... show more
