I've purchased countless books from Amazon over the years and was never motivated to write a review until now. I ordered this book hoping that it would help me decide among different types of retaining walls and then help me to actually construct them. The catch is that this entire book only pertains to a single brand of retaining wall called VERSA-LOK. While the enthusiastic foreword penned by the president of VERSA-LOK was touching, I was hoping for a quite a bit more breadth on the subject. There are only about 20 pages on how to build VERSA-LOK walls and the remainder of the book consists of pictures of sample walls by you know who.     • Don't waste your money!
Format: Paperback
I was really disappointed with this book. I need to replace the steps and retaining wall on the side of my driveway and was expecting this book to have plans or instructions for various types of retaining walls. Instead, this book is essentially an expensive brochure for the Versa-Lok brand of retaining wall blocks. The content part of the book is only about 25 pages and does not appear to have much information (if anything) that is not in either the Versa-Lok brochures you can get free from retailers of those blocks or on the company web site (or the web site of other retaining wall block manufacturers). The rest of the book is pictures of retaining walls, patios and stairways. These pictures are similar to what you would see if you picked up brochures at a retailer or looked online. Unless you want to get ideas for your retaining wall and other hardscape features by looking at pictures in a book rather than in brochures or online, save your money. ... show more
