Marvin Denmark, a carpenter and craftsman with 50+ years of experience, shares the procedures he used to build and assemble all the components of a 12-sided wood-panelized yurt. The structure is based on the original yurt design, employing a center ring and tension cable, but it is built using wood-framed panelized construction that includes radial rafters similar to a traditional yurt. A panelized building system means that the components can be constructed off-site and then transported to the site for assembly. There are two editions of this book. This is the FULL COLOR EDITION: Detailed instructions, photographs and illustrations include the design, materials list and cut-list for a 16-foot diameter wood structure. The author does an excellent job of SHOWING how this project is done. Step, by step ... detail by detail ... making this project attainable by anyone with patience and a willingness to see it through! I love Yurts, and recall my first moment inside one akin to the Author’s remembrance of his ‘80s photo. My experience was at an Outdoor show, in Denver, and I recall stepping into the Yurt and the peace and tranquillity I suddenly felt compared to the din of the crowd outside. I starred up through the skylight and vowed I’d live in a Yurt one day. Alas, I am now disabled with Parkinson’s disease and not likely to build this project myself... but, I’m sending a link to this book to my daughter as she’s been thinking of ways to save money on housing in Uber-expensive Bozeman Montana. Thank you for a job well done! ... show more

Thorough and complete. I'm reasonably confident that I can follow these directions and end up with a solid structure. Materials lists and tool recommendations included. Well illustrated.

    • Decent info and build plans but only applicable to that specific building.
This book was a lot more helpful than some of the other yurt books floating around on amazon but I still feel like some of the info could have been expounded on. Important steps are skipped because the author built his actual yurt differently from the plans in the book. So info on creating a level building area is not there but sorely needed. As well as a few other complaints. Overall it was worth the purchase though. ... show more
