Good Book.

  • Good do it yourself book
I have some experience with building things but I wanted to build a computer desk for my son with drawers and wasn't comfortable doing this without some help so I bought this book. One of the projects in the book was what I wanted to build so that worked out good. The author recommends building with pressboard but I prefer solid wood. So I built using the material I prefer but using his plans. I will probably build something else from the plans in this book someday. The desk I built turned out well. ... show more

  • Good quality book
As a novice woodworker, I like the book and it is giving me lots of ideas. I would like to have seen cutting plans for maximizing utilization of materials but that is left up to the user. Seems a little dated and could have included more details on all the projects. For my office project, I'm relying on several other books more than this one. ... show more

  • Standard furniture from retail store.
Would you really like to spend your time and build such home furniture? You can buy similar quality furniture from Wal-Mart or Office Depot. Further, it will be chipper, and may be even more attractive.

  • A Good Book - worth the money certainly.
Very well detailed book describing the construction techniques to make simple home office furniture with simple plans to follow.

  • Fantastic tool!
A number of years ago I wanted to make a horizontal file cabinet for my wife. After a lot of searching online for good plans, I came across this book. Although I was skeptical, it was the best (promise of) plans I could find. The description, discussion and step-by-step instruction was terrific and the file cabinet turned out perfect! Not only did I save money by building my own, but it's more of what I wanted to begin with and I had almost as much fun building it as surprising my wife with it on her birthday. We're considering remodeling the kitchen in our new house, and Danny Proulx's other books are high on my list for new cabinets if we decide to do it. ... show more

  • I would have liked more information on WHY certain joints/hardware are used
The furniture in this book is OK, but the style is a little dated. I would have liked more information on WHY certain joints/hardware are used, rather than simple build and assembly descriptions. I'm glad I didn't spend much on this book, but I'm sure better books are out there.
