    • Expensive, but can't beat genuine toner cartridge
I had a previous TN850 toner cartridge that smeared all over the edges at 20% remaining life. I thought it was the drum so I replaced with a genuine Brother drum unit but pages still getting smudges at the edges. Turned out that it was the toner cartridge. So lesson learned: Genuine Brother cartridge not always good, still can fail just like the compatibles, not always worth the quadruple price. ... show more

I haven't needed to install this latest toner cartridge yet, but I expect it to last as long as the previous one. I did not notice where the previous one was made, and I used the carton in which it came to ship back the old one for recycling; I couldn't find the information on the cartridge itself either. This one is made in Vietnam. Update: Now that I have removed the toner cartridge from the package to install it, I see some slight differences from the earlier one -- and *perhaps* not refillable without cutting holes in it; I have not refilled any cartridges so far, but I am thinking of trying it. Another one was ordered automatically some months later, but I found that a 12,000-page cartridge was not much more expensive, so I bought that instead. ... show more
