  • it is okay but no more...
Style: Train
This is the third battery operated train we bought to decorate our wooden track sets. After returning the two before this one, I think this will stay but, I am not still that much satisfied for what I get compared to what I paid. Pros: -Easier to operate compared to the imaginarium express train Imaginarium Power Steam Engine Set we bought before. Both trains work on an AAA battery and the battery replacement is through the screw on the chimney. However, to reach the screw you need a thin and long screw driver for imaginarium whereas it is much more accsible for this model. Besides, you do not need to allign the metal circuit bits that carefully with this model which is a pain for the other one. -Grasps the track well. That was the reason I returned our previous battery powered Thomas Thomas Wooden Railway - Battery-Operated Thomas The Tank Engine train which was not very much compatible with tracks other than Thomas itself. The engine was unable to turn the curves and was getting off the track so frequently that it would not even complete one turn without the need for intervention. Compared to that model, this grasps the track well and does not get out of the track even in the sharpest corners. -Small enough for thight spaces such as tunnels. Bigger trains do not fit into fancy structures such as curved passage ways that are sold as accessories for some wooden track systems (we have an imaginarium express wooden track set Imaginarium Timber Log Train Set which has curved elevations in narrow passages and bigger engines get stuck in those places) Cons: -It is very simple with no attractive drawings on it. The imaginarium and Thomas trains look way more appealing compared to this model. -Weak: It can climb elevations okay but at an extremely low speed. It almost feels like the battery is about to die very soon (even just after replacing it) AAA is the wrong choice for battery. It should have been an AA at least for proper and sustainable power Thomas was a way stronger engine. -You need many rechargable batteries since a single AAA does not even last an hour. -Price:.At $20 this is pricier than the previous models I had and I think it does not deserve more than $12-13. In summary, this is not the perfect engine, but since it works I will keep it despite not being fond of it a lot... ... show more

  • Works well for a motor using one AAA battery
Style: Train
The engine slowly pulls up to three cars. Motor not powerful enough to go fast or pull more cars. Operates well on tracks made by all major brands.

  • Battery eater
Style: Train
My son loves trains and this train was a great addition except it goes through batteries like crazy. Smh It works great pulling alot of extra carts? Whatever the back parts of trains are called lol Also collects alot of hair or fur around the wheels if for whatever reason it will be on the ground. It does its purpose at a hefty price. • Battery powered train engine.
Style: Train
This was a fun gift. As with anything battery powered for kids it lasted two days. It did have the power to pull the train cars over the ramps! Perfect for a 4 year old in love with trains.

  • Good train! Especially like the flexible magnet
Style: Train
Good train! Especially like the flexible magnet, which helps trailing cars make it around corners smoothly. Also like that the screw for the battery compartment is relatively easy to get to and the right size for a standard Phillips head screwdriver (my kids aren't great about turning off the engines we have and I have to replace batteries a lot - we have a Thomas engine too, but it has a very small screw in a hard-to-reach place that makes battery changes difficult -- this one is much better on that score) . . . . ... show more

  • Great train! Even for 2 year old!
Style: Train
This train met all of our expectations. The battery has lasted longer than expected (especially with our son who forgets to turn it off!) The train can also pull 2-3 cars behind it, even up hills! My son loves the light on the front - especially as it goes through the tunnels. It also goes forward and backward (and for some reason our kids like to see it "pushing" the train cars- they find this very funny!) The only downside I can think of is the on/off switch is difficult for a 2 year old to use. To turn it off, you have to get the lever exactly in the middle, or else it switches to forward motion, or backward. This isn't an issue for us, because although the train isn't loud by any means, we can hear when it is still running from the next room, so we know if we have to turn it off for him. ... show more

  • Sturdy, powerful and colorful.
Style: Train
It seems grandkids do not like to push trains around the Brio tracks like their Father's did! This battery operated train is perfect and keeps their attention. Another great product by Brio.

  • Nice look engine - but slow :(
Style: Train
This train is very well made. I'm happy with how it looks 100%. It can go forward and backward so it's a plus. However, it is not powerful. With brand new battery, it is still very slow. We tried it both with disposable and rechargable battery. In forward mode, it can go up the bridge slowly but when it is in backward mode, it can't make it up the hill without a slighly push. Overall, my son still likes it but it doesn't give him a very WOW, or make him extremely excited seeing it run. If you want to see how it runs on a track, please go to Youtube and search for "Michael Choo Choo Trains Brio Metro". (P/s: I have to fast forward 2x and 4x to make the video little less slow when the train is running...) ... show more
