  • Great continuation of the series
I liked this book even more than the first, and I can't wait for the rest of the series to be published! The school children will be really excited about these books. They always seem to like a good series even more than individual books. It's so exciting to get the next one!

  • Charming adventure in pursuit of virtues
George Pennington struggles with doing the right thing. His friend Henry tempts him to cover up his disobedience. But George wants the Breastplate of Righteousness as much as he wants Henry's friendship. What is a 9 year old boy to do? My 7 year old nephew loves this series, which I gave him for his birthday. Great series to teach right and wrong and facing the consequences of what we do. ... show more

  • Great continuation of series
We absolutely loved this series. It is marketed as being great for kids getting ready to receive the Sacraments (which I agree with). We found that it's great for older kids and adults to read with them. This series is well written and teaches moral values (referring to the Catechism and the Bible) without seeming to force it. The stories are told naturally and are engaging, they bring you in and make you feel like you are with the characters. I also really appreciate how the characters are real. They make mistakes and they learn from their lessons. Hope this author will continue writing and maybe do some more series like this. The series takes place in a time that could be recognized as the middle ages (Knights and Dames, no Tv's or Iphones), but also has strong female characters and doesn't seem to be pushing history, as it also has dragons, so it's a fantasy world that is relatable to today. This book is great for Catholics, but I think it also would be great for Christians or anyone trying to teach their children virtues and morality. ... show more

  • How to Teach Your Kids True Virtue Without Them Noticing
This series (of which this is book two) could just about be titled "How to Teach Your Kids True Virtue Without Them Noticing." This story, although a short and easy read, is not only super fun to read and sprinkled with Linden's usual humor, but loaded with beautiful examples of Christian virtue: how to stand firm for what you know is right, what true friendship is really about, how to react to injustice, how to help others in a way that is Christlike . . . the list goes on and on. And the wonderful thing is that these lessons are brought to a level that children can understand, relate to, and put into practice in their own lives. It's been several months since I read the first book, "Belt of Truth," so I really enjoyed re-meeting George and his friends (or in this case, sort-of-friends), and seeing how their adventures continue from the last installment. I'm so excited to see how the upcoming books will turn out as Linden goes through all the parts of Armor in St. Paul's famous epistle. Books like this are so needed today for our children and I can't recommend this series highly enough! ... show more

  • Realistic and adventurous with a dash of intrigue!
Do you remember reading chapter books, eagerly flipping pages, sometimes peeking ahead for the pictures? I do! And Theresa Linden's Armor of God series takes me right back to those early elementary days when I zipped through chapter books. Best of all, these stories are engaging for children. Realistic scenarios for characters of their age yet with a bit of adventure and intrigue (can you say one-armed, dragon-slaying knight?) that add a fantastical element. I'll be reading these books aloud to my youngest children, and I think they'll be wanting to re-read on their own, especially as they are both just around the age or reason when they are considering right from wrong, especially in context of receiving Catholic sacraments. Full disclosure, I edited this book, but that doesn't negate my experience as a child and a mom. These are great little books. (I read a pre-release copy of this book. All opinions are strictly my own.) ... show more

  • Great books for young readers
I will be buying all of these books for my next 3 First Communicants. This book draws the reader into the children's life in a medieval village, where the children wrestle with virtue and earn their armor of God in pieces, one at a time. I love Linden's writing. I got to read a pre-release copy of the book, but I will buy it as soon as my son is ready for me to read it with him. ... show more
